The obvious answer is power dynamics. Jennifer Lopez was already an A-list star by the time she was with Diddy with her own team, revenues, and career. Cassie and others were burgeoning, younger artists and women who lacked their own power. That's why Lopez said "nope" and dipped from Diddy after the nightclub shooting. She didn't need him or his mess.

Jlo had a machine behind her prior to meeting Puffy and had a name for herself. Though I feel if Jlo stayed longer he would’ve eventually broke her down too. Jlo had her own money so that made it easier for her to get away. That’s why it best to have you own money in a relationship as a woman because when its time to leave you can easily do so. I think he treated can bad because she resembles Jennifer when she was younger and I think Puffy hated the fact Jennifer got a way and was making Cassie pay for it!
