The Central Nervous System: The Brain and Spinal Cord

Published 2019-02-28
The nervous system is extremely complicated, but we should definitely know the basics, so let's dive in! It is comprised of two main divisions, the central nervous system, and the peripheral nervous system. The first of these is made up of the brain and spinal cord, and since the human brain is literally the most complicated known object in the universe, we will just cover some introductory concepts. For more information on the brain, check out the upcoming biopsychology course! Otherwise just watch this for a few tidbits.

Just wanted to send a big thank you for making all of this content! I always wished I would have had the opportunity to take Anatomy and Physiology in college, but these videos help make up for that. Very excited to keep learning!

  • Thanks for these videos Professor Dave. I am a first year nursing student and these are helping me study for my midterm in a couple of days. I have been struggling a lot with anatomy and physiology but these videos seem to be helping me much more than my long lectures and hundreds of slides. Thanks and hopefully they help me raise my grades !

Hi Professor Dave! First, a big thank you for making all these amazing, elucidative videos that help me learn. But- please correct me if I'm wrong!- for the diagram where you showed different colored areas of the brain, I feel it's better that it is flipped horizontally to show the left hemisphere- Broca's and Wernike's areas reside there, rather than on the right hemisphere?
