There's a thin line between braiding someone's hair and sadistic medieval torture!

I just hate that SOME stylists don’t care about your real hair and how much they’re damaging it to achieve aesthetics.

See this is why i do my own hair, it might not be as "neat" but at least it's protective

“If your scalp is separating, it’s time to let them go.”

I’ve always taught my daughter if a hairstyle hurts, take it out. No matter the style. If it hurts it’s too tight. Take it out.

The epidemic of alopecia in the black community is due to this along with using too many bundles during weaves are adding more weight than your follicles can handle among other things.

Thanks you for this. Some braiders are just sadistic, especially the ones who have been told REPEATEDLY that they braid too 🤬 tight. They need to get off their “beauty is pain” BS. Especially when you do that to children.

If it hurts to move your head, or you can feel your heartbeat in your brain, take em’ out.

They don't braid your hair, they be braiding your thoughts...🤣🤣 smh.

Former braider here... Ab so freekin' luteleee!!!! It is my hope that you find the magical braider who has what the old folks lovingly refer to as growin hands... getchu all da way together with not a strand out of place, while being extremely gentle & quick too. After retiring from braiding, I found her & couldn't be happier. She's awesome & such a beautiful soul. I even referred my former clients to her once I stopped braiding. ❤❤❤

I feel Ike telling a person “It’s not too tight, your just tender-headed” is such a huge red flag. It’s sign that your stylist is horrible at their job and they’re blaming the customer!

& this is why I taught myself how to braid my daughters hair . I’ll never forget when she was like 2 I had my sister do it and it was way too tight to the point she had those little red bumps in the back of her head and was crying it hurts scalp red asf. Took all that shit out right then and there . She’s 7 now and NOBODY has touched her since .

This is why I learned how to braid my own hair, I refuse to lose hair and edges for a hair style
  • If your scalp is separating, it’s time to let it go🥴😭

You just helped me understand my own mixed Native American and white scalp and my mind is blown! Why didn't my dermatologist explain this to me?! They put me on prescription shampoo and meds. I literally was wearing my ponytail too tight and it was pulling out my hair. I shaved my hair off and I'm regrowing from scratch so I can heal. Thank you!! 💚

Let’s normalize the reality that not only do people have different pain tolerances, they have different skin elasticity. There’s a difference between tight and torture.
