Mayor touts guaranteed income program's success

Published 2024-06-26
A Baltimore City program that provides $1,000 a month to parents in need will come to an end next month, and the mayor is calling the program a clear success. The Baltimore Young Families Success Fund was a pilot project that gave 200 young city parents $1,000 a month over a two-year period. The final payment will go out in July. The city started sending payments to families in 2022 with the intent to address income inequality and poverty and help to level the playing field for families that are at or below 300% of the federal poverty line. The unrestricted funds could be spent by the families however they wanted.
