Y’all should actually print the dark history book and sell it for merch. Make a sized replica of the book used in the videos and fill it with the scripts from each episode at the end of the year. They’d be entertaining and educational and you could release a new volume each year like entertaining historical encyclopedias

Whe she opened with “slavery was the first form if private prison” ….i just….she always makes me so proud! From Nestlea to Hawaii and everything in between…she brings light to the most suppressed topics
  • @lesleyreese237
I work in Correctional Healthcare. I'm so glad Bailey did this topic. Our prison system is horrible.

IDK how you got the timing so right, Bailey and Dark History team!!! I have been struggling with a 1300 word paper in college about capital punishment and shady prisons this past week, and I used your video to help my research (that you magically released right when I was feeling hopeless about finishing my paper) Not only did I turn it in on time, but I shared your video with the class, and everyone enjoyed it! Even my professor!!! Thank you so so much Bailey& friends I love you guys!!!
  • I actually worked in adult corrections as a gaurd for about 5 years, and then juvenile corrections as well for another 3 years, and this video is so ridiculously spot on, not a lot has changed, and our system is still just as money hungry and politically corrupt. Not to mention that our judicial system is totally messed up as well. It's sad really.

I'm proud of Bailey. It's hard to risk popularity by telling dark truths. It's time it all finally comes out and people like bailey that has a following can get the most reach. Thank you Bailey.

Andrew. BATH SALTS. Jackson. 🤣 Ok pausing to blind reacting but bissshhhh that gets me every time ‼️
  • The mistreatment never ends, sigh 😔 Please could you do a dark history Ep. about healthcare systems and pharmaceutical companies, and how they came to be what they are now?
  • @sexi804shorti
When people talk about systemic racism....this is what they're talking about. The system was designed to be racist. Thank you for talking about it Bailey.
  • I have not even watched this yet, but I have worked in a prison once and healthcare my whole adult life...neither of these things should be for profit.

I'm a lawyer in Louisiana, and there could be an entire book on the state of privately owned prisons here ... really, more like an encyclopedia series of the prisons for profits here ... one small example, in East Carroll Parish, there's a prison there that also operates as the local jail. People from Baton Rouge get sent up there when the jail in Baton Rouge overflows. Because the women's wing only functions as a local jail and holding facility for other parish jails, it isn't under Department of Corrections rules. There are times when they've gone without power or running water for days and the food is literally delivered in crates marked FDA condemned. Because the DOC rules don't apply to them, they aren't required to have a back up generator, nor are they required to feed anything nutritious ... people would come back from there malnourished because unless their families sent them money, they were SOL on food. Oh, and they don't even provide basic necessities like underwear or bras. If you can't buy those, you're also SOL. its absolutely disgusting...and these are people who haven't even been convicted of anything yet. Some of them are even sent there for two to three months for missing court on a speeding ticket. Like I said...a whole series could be written about the state of things here, but the bottom line is no one really cares. At least not enough to make a difference.

When my children are older I'm going to have them watch these history lessons. Honestly, I myself have learned so much.
  • @crystalgtv5223
Yay to another episode! I’ve learned more from your episodes than I ever did in history class. BUT I am MISSING your Monday uploads ! 😭
  • @theonlysun7
Bailey, it means so much that you use your platform to talk about important topics. Please consider looking into the troubled teen industry--many residential centers and 'schools' claim to be nonprofits yet their administrators mysteriously make upwards of $500k/year. There is so much corruption and greed to be uncovered as well as systemic abuse and exploitation of the most vulnerable children. Any light you could shed on this issue would be fantastic. Thank you so much for everything you do ✨
  • @BriannaElin
Huge shoutout to Bailey and all the people behind the scenes gathering research to share with us. I knew this topic would be a heartbreaking and frustrating one. I’m adding “end private prisons” to my list of requirements to support a politician.
  • @m1eden
Bailey girl I'm getting worried your gonna disappear revealing all this truth, but I love you for it you are doing an excellent job
  • @fefreaak9369
The prison story really reminded me of a specific thing that Belgium (specifically Brussels had) There was a time here (1958 so not even long ago!?) where you could go to a "Zoo" where they kept POC in cages like they were animals that you could feed bananas and pet their heads (It was called Expo 58). It would be really nice if you did a Dark History episode on Belgium and also their part in the Genocide of Congo, it is considered one of the "biggest" genocides in our history with over 3 Million deaths and estimated over 10 million victims overall yet it's a genocide that not many people know off. Having a genocide in our history that happened so recently that is not spoken about to this day makes my heart hurt and it would be amazing to hear you cover the story because it's so much to unpack. Thanks for the amazing videos!!
  • @danicee
Had a professor that worked on a program at PEN that discussed the "prison-for-profit" pipeline, it's a huge issue in the US but a lot of companies use labor supplied by these private prisons to produce products, many of which we can buy. It's messed up.
  • "wE DoN't WanT cRiTiCAl rACe tHeOrY tAuGHt In OuR ScHoOlS..." Bailey Sarian: "Hold my brush...Welcome to Dark History!" I love it! Thank you for this series!! I've learned SO much more than what was taught in school.
  • "We appreciate you, Book: full of knowledge, and sentences." That's the Bailey we all know and love....
