Mad Max: Fury Road - Five Wives - Warner Bros. UK & Ireland

Published 2024-05-06
From filmmaker George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary Mad Max trilogy, comes this return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max (Tom Hardy -The Dark Knight Rises) believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a band of survivors fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and ruthlessly pursues the rebels in the high-octane Road War that follows.

  • They did a great job of making each of them distinct and memorable, would’ve been very easy to just make them into macguffins or just male-gaze-objects but they were all interesting characters with personalities.
  • The level of commitment and research these actresses poured into their roles is incredibly impressive. Especially in such and extreme climate !

They just fake a lot . They have all the modern day comforts . But looks gorgeous Charlize Theron wouldn't have cared much . Just worked really hard to get it right.

2:25 - "Mad max" is and was a great movie, which I consider to be brilliant in its own way. But I'm not too keen on it being perceived as "feminist". Because if we accept that interpretation, then the message fulfills all the black nightmares of right-wing radicals and incels: feminism sees women as better and more moral, while it sees men as the source of all problems. The only way to live a just life in peace is to isolate ourselves from men and use them only for reproductive purposes. Granted, this makes sense in the context of a Mad-max world where all men are either bigoted or desperate. In either case, then, such a man is a guarantee of trouble - especially if you're a woman. It's just that Mad-max is based on the problematic premise that human society collapses absurdly quickly into a state of total chaos. But that's not entirely true - we know empirically that it doesn't work that way, and in the case of disasters, on the contrary, society comes together and people help each other out more. Of course, if it did "collapse", it would probably get more complicated over time and the Garden of Eden of human altruism would not fall out of it, but neither would the world of madness that Mad-max represents. Anyway, bottom line - calling Mad-max "feminist" means that you think feminism is a zero sum game and you think women deserve to win because that's the only way the world can achieve balance. If this is the interpretation espoused by incels, etc. But if it's held by someone who considers themselves a fighter for "equality", then I have news for you: it's not a fight for equality, it's a fight for revenge. Admittedly, this makes sense in the context of a Mad-max world where all men are either fanatical or desperate.
