Rahu Maha Dasa is one of the very long periods Dasas like Saturn (19 Y), Mercury (17 Y) , Jupiter (16Y) and Venus (20). Rahu Maha Dasa runs for 18 years. Vedic Astrology describes Rahu as Kali Purusha. He wants all kinds of worldly pleasures. He creates a passion for the worldly house qualities in which he is placed. He creates a deep-rooted desire. It is not a normal desire, it is like an excessive desire. He is tricky, deceitful and tries to achieve things in a shortcut. He does not like working hard, achieving and enjoying the worldly pleasures in a systematic way. Rahu wants everything in quickness. He indulges in excessive enjoyment and wants related things for enjoyment in a shortcut way. The same qualities Rahu gives to the native in his Maha Dasa.

Now let us see the results during the Rahu Maha Dasa. During their mahadasa period, planets give their qualities to the native. During Kuja Dasa a native act with the qualities of Kuja. When placed in 8th or 12th house, fears of death, diseases will be felt by native including suicidal tendencies during a weak Rahu Maha Dasa. When Rahu is in conjunction with a malefic like Mars, the native will encounter accidents, surgeries. In conjunction with Sun, Rahu gives troubles. In conjunction with Saturn, Rahu is comfortable. Even when well placed, Rahu gives good results only after troubles and hardships. For good results in Rahu Dasa, the native should perform Abhishekam for Lord Shiva and should pray Durga Devi.
