In short, you can not be a burden on the Australian taxpayer.
  • @ricanderson7271
Minor correction, New Zealanders can automatically apply for citizenship after 4 years( not permanent residency) ..kinda already get that immediately. Same for Aussies to Nz except they have to wait 5 years

When you add the allowances and penalty rates for working outside normal 9-5 hours, the pay rate will be significantly higher. There is also a huge shortage of Assistants, enrolled & registered nurses staff in Cairns & Australia overall, particularly in aged care, that you'll find pay rates may be higher than the minimum and getting extra hours/shifts relatively easy. Add in our glorious weather now the prolonged wet season is over and Cairns is looking a great place to be.

Another route for residency opened up this week, that being serving in Australian military, not all nations qualify for this but US citizens do
  • @rhodes1948
I hope you make the effort mate ,you seem like a decent young man and I’m sure you’d settle in quite well ..go for it ! 😊
  • @deano305
Hope your recovery is going well. Very informative and honest video, I hope your pathway works out as it’s a great field that we always need people in. A lot of those regional areas listed are within NSW, NSW Health or other providers are probably worth researching for State Sponsorship. Newcastle and Wollongong are very big population centres.
  • I didn't realise Oz had such complicated and varied pathways were for residency. Very interesting. BTW, the minimum wage in australia for Full Time and / or Permanent Part Time employment is currently $23.23 per hour. This includes Annual Leave and Sick Leave. (and about to increase to $24.1 on 01/07/24). However, as your are in the hospitality industry, I would have thought that you were a Casual employee - in which case your minimum wage would be $29.05 per hour.

Wow, there is a lot of stuff in getting the visas sorted. I hope when you decide which way to go that it goes smoothly for you Putting these videos together shows your capabilities in getting things done
  • Nicely explained Greg, you sure have done your home work on this. All the best in what you decide to pursue. 👍 nsw

A well thought out piece Greg. I would add 'networking' while here too eg I noticed you doing that at Quizz night last week when asking my friend Matt about how he came to Australia and ended up owning a business that employs 6 or so others, as well as a couple of houses and a farm, and then how his partner then got Australian citizenship. Admittedly, you are correct: they both being from the UK,. being native English speakers and the UK having many reciprocal health and working holiday visas made it far easier for them, though it still took a long time, money and paperwork. You have to do your homework. Incidentally, it was Matt;s birthday BBQ down the Esplanade tonight and it ended up being a much bigger do than I expected including a whole bunch of people I didn't know from all over the world and Australia : some from Sydney but also Germany, South Africa, , Argentina, Holland etc and the topic of work and visas did come up. What a wide and diverse group. I did think of you, as you had been invited, and some of the connections and experiences would have been interesting. Anyhow, I hope you are improving with the crutches, you areenjoying the glorious weather finally, and that Tablelands trip is still on anytime you want. Cheers, Col
  • A cert 3 in nursing will allow you to do agency work and they are likely getting $40 an hour now as a casual. They have had recent increases in minimum wage. That said, there is really no further advancement on that certificate alone. Certificate 4 would need to be done to gain entry into other fields. Ambulance officer is a highly sort profession with far more applicants than places. You'd want at least a cert 4 in a medical science and qualifying as a RN would put you in a great advantage. The proviso is as an international student, it will cost BIG!

In Adelaide, many people arriving from overseas that I know have trained as carers working in the aged care sector. While working in aged care, they are also studying to eventually become nursing staff. They study until they are able to achieve the qualifications for the first rung and then can work in a more formal nursing environment, while they continue to accumulate educational courses towards their objectives of becoming fully qualified nurses.
  • @Mav_F
See if you can get work in the field without the certificate. Be a Day-to-day aged care worker and say to them you want the job to pay for your studies. Also, maybe volunteer for a few days and see if that is what you want to do.
  • @solreaver83
Most commonwealth countries will have an advantage. Coming from the conical history and the political ties we've had from that.
  • @FionaEm
Maybe you could try for semi-skilled/unskilled work in a hospital environment, e.g. porter or nursing assistant? That would at least put you in the right place and give you a better idea of whether you want to try for nursing training/permanent residency? Best of luck 😊
  • @kim.s2523
Good luck with your endeavour for Australian residency

If you ever find yourself stuck in a seemingly hopeless situation, and need a place to stay I can offer you a room at ours. Although we live in the Gold Coast hinterlands (Scenic Rim is considered rural i believe), we'd be happy to help you out if you needed. We don't have a business or anything, so probably wouldn't be able to cover your rural hours requirements just on our little 5 acre block. But, my hubby could always do with an extra pair of hands. It'd be more a free base to explore your options in this part of qld if you happen to find yourself stagnating up there. 😊 I've become quite invested I your journey and really like your attitude. I really want you to find success and thrive here in Aus too. You've been thru so much already I'm afraid you might give up in the end. Keep plugging dude, you've got this.
  • I’m genuinely curious about your reasons for emigrating. Good for you brother! Welcome to paradise!
