From the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft to never making another NFL roster 3 years later, Jamarcus Russell joins The Pivot to finally tell his side of the story about what really went on to cause such a short NFL career for the quarterback who had so much potential. This conversation covers everything with emotion filled losses, tension filled frustrations and honest reflection of one of the most disappointing stories in the sport's history.

Jamarcus, the highly successful LSU alumni and MVP of the 2007 Sugar Bowl, shares the Tiger ties with Ryan and reached out because he felt after all these years, it was time to answer many of the stories that shadowed his career and ultimately led to his downfall. Giving him every opportunity to explain and take accountability for what went on- Ryan, Fred and Channing ask the tough questions to find answers we all want to know.

Getting right into it, the guys ask him about substance abuse stories, not watching film, missing team meetings and relationships with coaches and teammates on the Raiders during his years there. Ryan asks Jamarcus if he considers himself the biggest NFL Bust of all time to a response that may come as a surprise but he also makes it clear where he stands financially after getting 35 million guaranteed and addresses rumors of the former quarterback being broke.

Not overlooking his ability to play at a high level, Channing asks Jamarcus how his talent led to losing seasons and not a lot of playing time as Jamarcus talks about his regrets, relationship with Al Davis, Nick Saban, Tom Cable, Hue Jackson and others in the organization who he feels played a role in his short NFL career. Reflecting back on a lot of "What Ifs', Jamarcus tells Fred he often wonders what it would have been like and how the course would have changed if Randy Moss was never traded to New England the year he was drafted and dispelling the rumors of his beef with Jeff Garcia and why he never made it on to another NFL roster.

This interview has literally changed my whole perspective of Jamarcus Russell. It’s scary what the media can do. I think a Johnny Manziel episode would go crazy

Ryan Clarke is one hell of an interviewer...the way he worded questions to make sure he didnt embarrass or enrage Jamarcus is something Brandon Marshall could NEVER do and i mean that with no real disrespect. Pivot Podcast is incredible...Channing Fred the ability to help others feel comfortable and at home is something rare unique and special.

People slandered this man. He came with it in this one. BIG RESPECT.
  • Hearing the story of JaMarcus really changes my view of him, i can understand why his career didn't take off. My man had a lot on his plate and no support from people who were supposed to be there for him. Everything happens for a reason. Glad JaMarcus is doing good in life. This was a must guest. Great Guest🙏

He is a legend from our city!!! A great leader for our youngest in the city of MOBILE. I even had a son and nephew to play on one of his youth football teams for 2 years 5 years ago. First day of practice he gave everybody new cleats even if you had some or not. He cooked for the kids almost every night after practice. He took them to all kind of football camps during the seaon and after. They went all the to Florida st to meet jimbo just like he mentioned in this video. He basically made sure everybody was striaght that was around him. AND IT WASNT BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDED HIM TO. So Put some respect of J. Russell name!! Stand up guy. P.S. OUR KIDS NEVER LOST A GAME!! Great interview!!

I loved every bit of this interview, this was the real, authentic and genuine. I felt the realness from Jamarcus Russell, this man said he wouldn't do an interview with nobody else but these dudes. THAT'S BIG TIME!!!!!

Jamarcus and Kwame both being able to tell their own stories this past year has been refreshing. They’ve accomplished more than the 99%, can’t call them Bust in real life.
  • Love his energy and you can tell he's really being honest about everything
  • Makes me smile to see this man has moved on and is at peace with what transpired. Great interview!
  • Thank you Pivot for giving Jamarcus a voice and humanizing him. Media sh*tted on his name for years and made a mockery out of him during predraft shows. It was refreshing hearing his side. He was a kid straight out the hood given millions leaving a good system at LSU with the expectation to save a dysfunctional franchise in the Raiders. This episode gave more context as to who he is and his circumstances. Always remember to give people the grace you’d want at your lowest point.
  • It's amazing how The Pivot Podcast has gained more than half the subscribers I am athlete have in 5 months even after their 2 year head start. Amazing job guys ❤️
  • Greatest quote ever “ football don’t last forever it gave me a great start in life “ “ keep your shit tight “. This man has a lot to offer the youth glad he has decided to share with all of us nothing but respect should be thrown his way
  • @dwaynelee1789
This was the best interview i have seen. You guys got Jamarcus to really dig deep. This really explains why he was banished from the NFL. All the best to him and his family.
  • I know him personally.... I was glad to see this interview from him ...I called and told him he gained a lot of fans back with this one it was much needed .we played high school football together and we all are very close ....we also coach park league football together JaMarcus is a real solid dude 🤞💯...Great interview my dawg ...Family🤞💯💯💯
  • @jeffy-baby
Big props for talking TO this man. Everybody else talks about him.
  • @glopez09
He spends his current days teaching kids how not to end up in situations he been through. Respect that. He threw alot of shade on the raiders org but talked of his prior coaches and leaders as gods. The raiders in his day, and many sports orgs now really are that bad. The bad teams are bad every year for a reason and it's true, they look at you as a savior with no real connection or environment to thrive in.
