In this tutorial we'll be rigging two different things! One is a six legged creature, and the other is a hand. We'll be using Inverse Kinematics and a workflow where we make the rig first, and then add the parts later!

FINALLY! I'm 60+. 3D art is still in its infancy to me. Working from the costumes to the bones is absolutely an alien concept. I've always started drawing with the bones for positioning, implying muscles, then working on the skin and clothing. Thank you for showing me that rigging the animal, or human first CAN be done. I'm crying happy tears right now.😂
  • Finally a good rig tutorial that isnt just "use mine in the description" or "just use rigify (or other program/site etc.) to spawn in a premade rig!". Thank you dude!

If you uncheck “lock object modes” under the edit pull down, you won’t have to switch back and forth between object and pose for parenting. Saves a lot of time and movement when there’s a lot to bind for anyone that didn’t know.

One of the highest quality Blender Youtubers out there. Absolutely love every one of you videos! You cram in so much excellent information with unique ideas, relaxing audio, and amazing end results!!!
  • @eoghanley
Would love a tutorial about your animation workflow, your animations are always excellent !
  • @LANGIMATION
I recommend working on one side and adding _L or .L at the end of each bone or R if you're working on the right side and then when all of them are finished select all, right click and select symmetrize. It'll save you a lot of time.

There should be a "public gallery of essential Blender tutorials". This one definitely would be!
  • @Allaboutstory
I've never seen someone explaining so smooth with so good creature designs. Amazing work ❤

I've been using your Mechanical Creatures pack nonstop for the past week. It's so much fun!!! This new speedy tutorial is amazing. Thank you!

MAN WHY I DIDNT FOUND YOUR CHANNEL EARLIER! THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN AND TELL ABOUT EVERYTHING AND SHORTCUT KEYS MAN. TY FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!
  • Just something I noticed at the start, when you're doing the bones on each side, you can just make one side and then use the symmeturies operation. This also symmeturieses the constraints and stuff

you are singlehandedly teaching me every more advanced idea or concept in blender, and completely causeing me to reapproach how I do mostly everything.

I can't even remember if i have ever seen such high quality tutorials. They are simply awesome.
  • Thank you so much I was looking for an easier way to create these rigs. You're a life saver. Keep up the great work.
  • @spartanbdx
Your tutorials are SO good! I know there are so many other tutorials out there, but the way you explain is just BLISS! Keep bringing more animation tutorials please! Thank you!
  • @Goalatio
Thanks for this! I've been using Unity for about 8 years and animation has always been the death of my projects. Tutorials like this are making it so easy to just suck it up and "jump in" to learn it!

Your tutorials are always quite excellent. Whenever I get a YouTube notification that you have a new video, I immediately drop whatever I’m doing (which can have unpredictable results) and view it. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, time, and effort to help complete strangers get better. EDIT: if you’re ever in Kansas, drop by!
