The comparison to prime Arod is perfect. Let's just hope the Yankees don't become the Mariners

Joel Sherman on MLB Network floated an idea that he says was thought about regarding IBB. He said you are allowed to walk a guy in this case Aaron Judge one time intentionally during a game and after that if you walk him intentionally he doesn't go to 1st base he goes to 2nd base. If there is a guy already on 2nd base then he gets moved to 3rd and you now have men on 2nd and 3rd. I think that makes more sense than anything I've heard and I believe that would discourage a team from walking a guy like Judge 3 times intentionally.

I feel the Yankees will go to A.J. and tell him if they resign Soto he'll be the highest paid player not just on the Yankees but in Baseball and Judge will say sign him because 1. He wants to win and Soto can help him do that and 2. He and Soto have developed a bond that has propelled both of them and I can't see that being broken up so if Hal doesn't worry about the luxury tax he will do what it takes to keep Soto a Yankee.
  • Or they could modify the rule and make it you can only intentionally walk someone once a game …..so pick your spot

You can easily give Soto over 50 million yearly and stay under the 300 million tax thresholds. If not, and the Yankees lose Soto, they can sign Corbin Burns and Santander for almost the same cost and also hurt the Orioles as well.
  • The argument that Yankees can’t pay Juan Soto more money than Judge is stupid. Even if they paid Juan Soto the same AAV as Judge he would still get paid 100 plus million more because he’s 6 Years younger ! Judge got his big contract in his 30’s, Soto is in his mid twenties.

The Yankees have tons of money come off the payroll--17 mil Rizzo...14.2 for Torres. 8.7 Verdugo.4 million Lou Trivino ...Move Nestor for a prospect----4 mil. And the Yankees stop paying Donaldson 6 mil and Aaron Hicks 8.7 mil after this year. Take all that money and give it to Soto.
  • Very easy to keep people from walking judge. Grant 2 bases per walk. Or have all runners advance a base regardless of where they are. If there is a base open and a runner is on third, then if you walk judge, that runner at 3rd scores. baseball is already boring as it is, you cant just take the bat away from the one guy who can actually hit the ball 1 out of 3 times.

Austin Wells is a rookie catcher hitting .240-something with single digit home runs. No one is even slightly scared of him.

I don't think Yanks will made a serious offer for Juan Soto who has already turned down a $400M+ offer once in his career. It will probably take $450M+ to get Soto so quite frankly I don't think the team that already is paying Judge and Cole all that money can afford him. And you can bet Soto and Boras won't sign a deferred deal like Ohtani.
  • The problem with the Yankee roster is that they really have 2-3 profession bats in the line-up, and outside Soto and Judge who scars you when Stanton is not playing or is struggling terribly, as he is currently. The drop-off statistically is so great when any other Yankee hitter bats after Soto and Judge, that opposing teams and coaches say put Judge on and let these other mediocre hitters try to beat us, because lets face it, they are all mediocre hitters at best. Chisholm was an upgrade athletically for the Yankees, but he is not the hitter the Yankees needed, they need a leadoff hitter with a high OBP and low strike-out ratio, and they also needed an excellent situational hitter, that is not Chisholm.
