Consumer Reports' Top Reliable Vehicles of 2024 (Some Are WRONG)

Publicado 2024-03-30
Consumer Reports gave us their top 10 most reliable cars of 2024. They included SUVs and more in their big yearly list of 2024 reliable vehicles. However, they're wrong and I'm going to show you why. It's not a great idea (in my opinion) to just blindly follow the Consumer Reports list. Many of these are still great

The eCVT on the toyota hybrids are a completely different animal from a standard CVT. Tne eCVT doesn't use pulleys and a metal band. eCVT uses electric motors and a planetary gearset. Completely different.

CR does their study by sending surveys, and it's a study of initial quality. You want a better measure, check with your mechanic. Consumer reports are okay for one report for some research,, but it's not the end all be all.

I'll say this about Toyota, they wouldn't be doing turbos if they couldn't hold the reliability they have had. I'd still trust a luxus with turbos over a Mercedes with them, that's for sure. Toyota does extensive reliability test.

My dad bought a 2018 x5 40i in 2019. We live in rural russia with harsh weather and bad roads. This car has never given us any problems. Hapy 160k kms. Just usual maintenance in supreme luxury

I used to be obsessed with Consumer Reports growing up. I will also take your opinion into consideration over that organization. They most definitely have been getting tipped off for years.

Just got a Rav4 this past June and I love it! Toyota for the win!
  • I drove Subaru's for 10 years. When the Forester started having battery problems I switched to a Mazda CX5. I love it!

I will say I leased an Acura RDX A spec and put 60k miles on it and didn’t have NOT ONE single problem and NEVER had to change a tire or brakes. My favorite car to own and wished I kept it
  • @BigBadRivi
I also leased a Subaru and my wife LOVED it never had an issue with it and was a great car. It is VERY RELIABLE

Interested in what list you used for this. The articles I’ve seen have a different top 10. Though those lists have categories, is this list just overall?

You have real experience and i like that. Thank you!

First off that is a 2013

Forestor with a 4 Speed Auto and the old 2.5 EJ turbo motor. Their AWD system is superior to anything in class.

2018 BMW 330i 100k kms on it. Had been eating 87 only still doing fine. B48/58 engine are unbreakable

There have been folks who have commented, actually gave a criticized retort, to my prior comments about driving our two Toyotas: A 2022 Tacoma Sport (naturally aspirated V6) and a 2023 RAV 4 Adventure (non-turbo, 4 cyl) as being "boring". If boring means proven reliability, so be it. Hopefully the new gen Toyotas with the turbo fours will continue to maintain Toyota reliability. And if things do go south, the cost to repair is much less expensive as is maintenance.

Great content Mark !!! Spring is coming ✌🏻🇨🇦

Yep, I have a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine plus the hybrid electric motor in my 2023 ES300h, Ultra Luxury trim. Bulletproof is the word and no frickin turbo. I'm averaging 42+ MPG in city/hwy driving around town and about 40+ on road trips averaging 75 miles per hour.
