Testing li-ion battery pack in my Freewing Avanti

Published 2024-05-19
First time flying on diffrent battery packs. Deffently cool to try out and see what the diffrence is weight, power and flight times could be.

Hello my friend, thank you for the nice vidéo, I fly with avantis V2 since october with 8S2P with molicel 45B and esc ZTW MANTIS SERIES G2 3-8s 125 A . Much power , time 7 à 12 minutes and esc thrust reverse for small landing strip .it's really awesome. and the batteries have 115 cycles and full power

I just remembered that your packs was held by tape. Maybe your cells need a bit of distance in between for cooling. A friend printed me the holder of a nice folk of thinginverse. He designed them from 3S to 7S I think 👌🏼

Thank you again. Always enjoy your videos in fantastic surroundings Always interesting and informative. 🇬🇧

Looking forward to this one! I’m also about to build my first packs :D

We are flying Avanti with 2 battery packs wired in Parallel. We noticed you are flying with a heavy throttle load. 2 battery pack will spread the load over more cells allowing for cooler temps and also longer run times. We are the Bronx Blue Angels flying in New York City

Those poor cells can only take 45A and you are probably pulling nearly double that at full throttle. Cell rating and ESC rating would kinda tell you its mismatched even without measuring. You need 2 of those packs in parallel. And those cells are cooked. Measure the IR but I would guess you'll need to dispose of them safely.

You used just half the capacity or less 🤣 but the heat may be a problem. A little RC car fan would help or the two parallel packs for flying 15-20 minutes at around 1050g (?) as a Hobby King 6000 brick 🧱 Lipo 🤣

Hi Turbinator!! Awesome video! So you gifted your “old” but perfect Avanti S a lot of youth with the newest EDF and that pack! 3:40 of flight time and still 3,66V. First I was a bit scared but then realised that LiIon can be drained securely to 2,8V. I suppose one would just feel after4-5 minutes that power is a bit less. But that’s a misuser anyway! That gliding was amazing. With the lighter pack! 👍🏼 How much does your weights? Around 450g I think? I was thinking to build a 6S or maybe 7S to compensate the voltage sagging in comparison to Lipos. But also that would need more current and then heat. Also I don’t fly so fast. I have been doing a couple of flights with my FMS Avanti V1 that I crashed in second flight in march. I glued all parts together just for fun and she flies amazing! Much more stable and fast that my Futura 64mm (4S-6S) and my FW F-16 V2 that I maidened yesterday. Sadly my Avanti had a problem with the from gear changing its position to the left after every flight. On my second landing yesterday the front wheel move to the left and so the plane which had some speed crashed as it was like a total brake in the front. The front fuselage broke again. And the gear does not work properly. She was so broken that it’s a miracle she clocked yesterday 199 km/h on my first test run with her! And after watching your video I was about to buy a used yellow 80mm one but it was too far away and someone else picked her up before me 🥲 I have also the FMS Viper 70mm and the 90mm waiting for maiden. I also ordered the new Viper 64mm (6S) from Hobbyking 😇 I’m flying just around a year and a couple of months EDFs and I’m totally in it 🤣 🤣 Best regards from holidays in South Tyrol, Italy PS: for testing I ordered the cheap Samsung 40t from AliExpress… those molicells are Damm good if Wotek is right :D No problem with the heat development? Under 85*C it should be OK I

6s 2p would be better. I would like these in my fms Rafale but won't fit without a lot of modification.

What was the max amps drawn ? Because the were so hot.
