Fun Fact: Maticore comes from the Persian word Marti Khor, meaning man eater. In the ancient world some Greek people overheard the horrible tale of a vicious murderous creature that had devoured many in northern Iran. In reality the creature was a Caspian Tiger that had started hunting humans for some reason, and the people called it a maneater (because tigers dont usually feed on humans) and so the Greeks took the story to their homeland and a mythical creature was born!

All I can imagine is this scene: Mantacore lands, "What are you doing here fleshling?" Party, "Hunting dragons." Mantacore, "Down the road, on the left. Big smoking mountain. You can't miss it."

While the falsetto voice thing is both fun and creepy depending on the situation, I prefer the old myths about a voice that mixes human speech with sounds akin to trumpets and flutes. It just adds that extra level of grandeur onto the creature and makes it that bit more majestic.

Part man, part lion vocal chords producing a falsetto pitch with near immovable lips would be so absolutely terrifying to your ears, especially coming from the darkest corner of a deep cave. I imagine it being shrill, but both raspy and growling, like aluminum scraps being drug across stone. These critters are still one of my absolute favorites.
  • I like how the Manticor is presented in the Merlin series, a malicious creature capable of producing powerful healing unguents, but only when it's ego and vile appetite is sated
  • @heckdis
As a DM and a falsetto, my players are going to be shocked next time they encounter a manticore 😂

Way back in olden ancient Greece Lived a most ferocious beast With eyes of flame and teeth of steel On human flesh it feast Standing over 10 feet tall No man escaped its roar (Roar!) Behold, my friends and foes alike The dreadful Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! The Manticore feels happiness Whenever you feel sad Because you got kicked in the junk The Manticore is glad The Manticore invented death And all things that are bad He'll kill your sister just for fun And make out with your dad Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! He'll enroll you in the school of pain And then teach the class He'll kick your ass in with his feet And then he'll kick your feet with his gigantic ass Don't give him sass He ate a whole guy with his face and didn't even chew Turns out that guy was you And yet you're there There can only be one explanation And that's that you're a zombie Now I'm scared It's not like there wasn't enough on my mind With the Manticore Manticore, where are you now? Are you gone forever? Oh no, wait -- there you are. He'll steal your girlfriend in the night And then he'll steal your soul He'll have a threesome with them both That's just how he rolls You may want to cry out loud "Manticore, you are wrong!" Too bad he already killed your ass In the first verse of this song. Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore!

So happy to finally see a new upload! Glad youre still making content Mr. Rhexx!!
  • @user-hs1xb9tv6e
Another reason why it probobly has three rows of teeth is because well, the mythical manticore was said to have three rows of teeth.
  • @felipefrota9160
I think a great idea for a plot one shot is to have a Gorgon causing trouble in a region/village and u have to make a deal with a Manticore, as they're lawful they would keep their end of the deal. If the party has some members chaotic or evil they could kill both monsters, get reagents and gold.

I would appreciate a series on the major cities of Faerun....i.e Waterdeep, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter and so on hitting the history, how they got started, demographics, import and exports, Historic leaders and battles.! Thanks
  • @Domdrok
The falsetto voice is hilarious and instantly gives me character ideas. The beholder with little hats and such for its stalks is so cute lol. Happy to see a video, dude!
  • @JDdoesstuff

  • @knightPerson

  • @olivertiit
Omg, my hands were shaking of deprivation for new "What they don't tell you about" episodes
  • @RandomZagreus
This video came at the right time, I was about to make a drakewarden ranger and instead of a dragon choose a Manticore as an ally and after this video I had several roleplay and BG ideas thx man
  • @MrCaramelldance
Ranger: "So the manticore says it will let us pass if we give it a tribute of meat or metal to eat." Artificer: "Oh, funnily enough I have these new rations that are meat wrapped in metal called SPAM." Manticore: "I don't like SPAM!"
  • @VeritasPsyche
They also didn't mention that many female manticores suffer from iron deficiency when going through mantopause. Incorporating iron supplements into their diet is recommended.
  • @orangexlightning
Glad to see another video from you! Definitely a fun one. Not sure what you have planned for the near future, but I was hoping that before you wrapped up talk on Dragons completely you could at least touch on Tchazzar. I also would be really fascinated to hear you talk about Goblinoids.
