"She is clearly deeply frustrated."

Chancellor Rachel Reeves announces cut to winter fuel payments. During the speech, Reeves was almost shaking with anger and blamed the previous government's "cover up" of spending commitments, says Times Radio's Kate McCann.

  • All pensioners stop paying council tax, spend the money on heating.
  • Labour MP's must vote against the cut to the Winter Fuel Allowance and defeat the Government if they don't then the next thing Labour will do is remove the Old Age Pension for anyone with more than £16,000 in assets. They should remove the Oversees Aid Budget and replace it with an Oversees Disaster Budget to help people in countries that have suffered Natural Disasters. Money for Israel and Ukraine should be stopped, we cannot be giving money to other countries to fund their wars if we cannot look after our Pensioners properly.

We don't qualify for pension credit, paid in for over 50 years happy to pay our taxes and insurance. We will Just leave the heating off. The belief that we have lots of money is so untrue.

Only last week there was enough money to hand out £85 million in foreign aid. Obvious where your priorities are Labour
  • Here we go didn’t take long for them to hit the pensioners who rely on the winter fuel payment to get them through that period absolutely disgusting

She had no idea?! Ha! From Casablanca, "there's gambling", "your winnings Sir".
  • @taliskerskye
I think pensioners will be shaking with anger…let’s not forget that MPs can claim fuel cost on expenses, greedy feckers
  • @tonimor9721
I am a pensioner and I approve of means testing WFP , we are only average earners but we do not need that payment ,give it to those that need it .
  • Pick on pensioners who cant cause trouble. Above inflation rises to anyone who could strike.

Pay for upkeep of illegals but stop fuel allowance for pensioners. Injustice !
  • @davidfoster2006
10 billion pay rise for public sector workers, 11.6 billion for foreign aid, free food and WARM accommodation for asylum seekers, and some quite poor pensioners can freeze.
  • I feel for all the pensioners struggling to make ends meet in the difficult economic period we are still experiencing. Clearly, the unions get what they want from a Labour government. The next group will be the higher tax payers with as a guess a 45% rate for this earning over £50k then a higher 50% rate for those over £125k. Lets not forget the additional tax revenue from Junior Doctors!

Millions of Pensioners are shaking with Anger but on the other hand all immigrants will be well looked after.
  • The doctor's inflation busting 20% pay raise could have paid for elderly not freezing to death in winter

This so-called Labour Government is already turning into a massive whingefest. I thought they were going to 'hit the ground running'?
  • @allenhanley2359
Shaking with anger my foot. Hitting the most vulnerable where it hurts. I get a quid a week more than the minimum to claim pension credit, £52 a year so she takes another £300 off me. Winter fuel allowance is a lifeline for 90% of pensioners but hey . She's ok, that's all that matters. I'm tempted to use Angela Rayner's scxm label on the whole of the Liebour front bench.
  • Rachel’s impersonation of William Pitt the younger from balckadder 3 was uncanny. Anyone else notice?
