How To Grow On Twitch?

If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.

But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!

Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?

The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.

Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up

By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.

If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

Hey #NotificationSquad! Hope you're having a great week! Have you made any failures this week like I have? • Coming from a streamer that has no chatters…..I always say to myself “Pretend you are making a YouTube video” and that inspires me to talk and talk and talk lol I say story times, just say random stupid stuff, give people info no one asked for like how i diet LOL Just pretending i am making a YouTube video is what helped me. Also be good at improv that helps too lol

As someone whose viewership has dipped by a lot this year, thank you. This was a great reminder why I started. I realized that not having viewers when I first started pushed me to tell better stories and be more entertaining on my stream, which in turn made for better content. Gaining viewers made me slack off and lose sight of what's important: make content that I find entertaining.

I was extremely surprised by your tactic of hitting "start recording" instead of "start streaming". I immediately thought that's absolutely genius. "Streaming" to 0 viewers instantly removes any anxiety from the equation and allows you to create awesome content that's easy to edit. I will 10000% try this Eljay, thanks for the fantastic content, as always.

As a small streamer I used a sports announcer mentality when I had 0 viewers. It helps fill the silence and describes what you're doing to anyone coming in. I've gained a lot of new followers/viewers doing this. Hopefully it can help someone else as well.

As a very small streamer myself it is hard when there isn’t anyone watching, but don’t give up. People will find you.
  • I've been streaming for years with moderate success.. gotta say this video is the best advice I've ever heard. Good job! 🙌 No one should have any excuses now
  • @derarnor
One of the most important things is: Just keep having fun. Try to talk about stuff that makes you feel happy and you can have fun with. Worst part about watching someone with low levels of viewers is, if they are not talking and just playing.. or just blasting insanely loud music!
  • Man good thing im crazy and always talk to myself on and off stream
  • @hammotimee
Such a great video Eljay, your final point hit me so hard. I stepped back from streaming at the start of the year to focus on just making videos and I've noticed such a difference in my mood and general happiness. I very rarely come away from making a video thinking I've had a bad time, can't say the same for my streams. Can 100% vouch for this advice!

Every time I’m about to give up trying to stream one of your videos pops up in my feed and I get the inspiration again. Such a great channel you have here man, thank you.
  • @ivy4104
I gotta say, this helped, as your videos do so often! I know for myself, that I just love streaming too much to only produce youtube videos, that inludes streaming to zero viewers, because frankly I just love to hear myself talk. But sometimes I get a real dip in creativity and being entertaining if I just talked to a lot of people in chat and then the interactivity slows down to zero and I gotta shift from interacting with chat to being entertaining on my own again. I think in these instances it would be very helpful to just imagine that I'm recording a video instead!
  • This is the most valuable video I've ever watched since subscribing to this channel. Absolutely loved this and I'm inspired. I've been in the biggest streaming rut!
  • @ladyteddi
When i was still starting out streaming and watching your videos to learn how to be better, i really appreciated this advice. And now that i am slightly more established and am trying to help other new streamers try to grow, i have to say that i really commend your patience in having to say this over and over and over. I find it really infuriating having the SAME conversation over and over with the same people. People wont want to stick around and talk if you arent already entertaining enough to want to talk too, and a lot of the time people just want to relax and be entertained with the pressure of talking. It definitely is EASIER when youve got someone to talk to but its not the viewers job to help you be a good streamer and be entertaining 🤷‍♀️ if i cant think of anything to say, ill try to talk about my day or ill just be really mindful about verbally narrating what im thinking and doing in whatever game im playing. I think its easier to stream when i have 0 expectations for my chat, because then its just a bonus when my chat does end up being entertaining 😅
  • @FloridaManYT
Im in the middle of editing my own video and was getting discouraged because my last video only got like 100+ views were as the video before that got 25k+ views and I'm trying to recreate that magic. but by trying to force something to be good i have just lost motivation. So thank you I needed to hear this right now. Also it was weird that I opened YT and this was the first thing i saw and you posted it only 8 minutes before I clicked..... Weird huh
  • @LurkenU
6:55 step three was huge for me, Thankyou EJ ❤ I’ve watched your YouTube for a very long time now and you helped me jump into just doing it and making an effort man. have a nice day ya legend 😊
  • @KalebelaK
dude i appreciate you for always posting this kind of content still. I couldn't imagine how frustrating it may be telling people exactly what to do multiple times in different ways lol
  • @KaboomsGambit
I'm a new streamer and I thank you for this advice. I don't have any viewers and I'm enjoying myself because I'm just trying to make content. Thanks for the great information.
