  • I was 15 years old when this book exploded onto the scene and at that time I was collecting any and everything Kieth did. But The Maxx opened my mind and imagination to draw and paint! I learned who Frazetta was, who Wrightson was and my style progressed because of Sam. He taught me how to draw and paint and thank you guys for sharing your love of this series as well. Awesome vid!!
  • Man, Sam Kieth is the guy who got me into comics...unbelievable style, remarkable talent-such a shame he doesn’t recognize it.
  • @kevinbarry6441
Been waiting on this one. For me, Kieth checks more boxes artistically than just about any other comic artist.

That's what I'm talkin about! Some of that Maxx!!! Where's the Sam Keith interview? He'd seem like he be fun to have on! Go C-K!
  • @dedward7739
Interesting episode. Btw, those are just hyper-stylized engineer boots on the Maxx. That's the ring that holds the straps together. Standard issue for the industrial goth set.

I received this book about three months ago and it was such a nostalgic trip I couldn't contain my cheesy grin. What an awesome opportunity to really look at the intricate nature of Kieth's work. The Maxx was my go to Image book that I ran to the LSC to pick up every month waiting to see what glory was in the pages. Great video guys!!

Oh, man, this is brilliant. The Maxx was pretty much what kept me interested in comics for a number of important years in my teens. What a comic!
  • @parttimecomix
Sam was so important to my comics journey, thanks for the deep dive
  • @maidenhell3176
The Maxx is and always has been my favourite modern character ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
  • @BabyXiuhcoatl
The missing caption blocks on the first page of The Maxx #1 featured his monologue about rain and the television series: 'Cheers'.
  • This was such a nostalgia hit. One of my favourite comic runs back in the day. So unique. I used to love the painted work amidst the wonderful ink work - looks so good in black and white
  • @mcfoodstamp
Thanks for showing this off, as the years stretch on, more and more I see Sam Keith's The Maxx's influence on my own work. As a kid I was a fan of Spawn #1, then Savage Dragon, then Pitt , then Maxx...pretty soon Maxx became the number 1 book for me.

Fax machines were integral back in the day. I faxed many a photocopied page of pencils for scripting. The worst thing about fax machines was the spam faxes you'd receive in the middle of the night. hahaha.

It's amazing to me that as a kid, I wasn't big on Keith's work, although I knew it was "different in a good way"... i just didn't care for it. The older I get (I'm of a similar vintage to Ed), the more I appreciate it and look over all my Marvel Comics Presents issues in awe and what he was able to do.
  • Love your work, guys, I learn a lot about my favorite artist and the way they work and how they solve the story and graphic necessities. Thanks a lot from Cali, Colombia.
  • @awallerfamily
Im 45. I grew up with this art. Have loved it ever since Maxx first came out. I remember the MAXX animated series. I am a huge fan of Michel Fiffe who i think might have been influenced a bit by Sam Keith
  • My all-time favorite comic creator. Full stop. I collect everything of his I can. Great video!
  • @barlotardy
Any time Maxx is in his homeless disguise, the fabric shadows are straight up Watterson.
