After watching this video, someone asked me:
“What is the learning purpose and insight to this?
Apart from the language aspect..."
I replied briefly,
"We do get a wealth of info just by reading in English. However as with any language, this still happens: words and phrases, idioms, etc all get LOST IN TRANSLATION. I found that sometimes when I refer to the Hebrew words (using a Strong's Concordance), life seems to pop out and come to life even more. Meanings are enriched. I have worked with translators in up to 50 languages and this always happens. There's just so much wealth in the Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic words.”
I worked on translations of Bible literature with translators from around the world in up to 50 languages for many (12) years, and sometimes the whole “Lost In Translation” issue becomes very real. Especially with poetry, rhyming, meter. Thankfully God gives us creative solutions. But there’s nothing like discovering the original meanings.
