This video is truly heartbreaking to know that it is happening in the Middle East. It is great to see that Major Lazer has put this issue to inform others of the reality of what's happening to these innocent children and their families. The monster represents death following the boy as the conflict goes on. The boy constantly tries to escape death and the idea that his close family/friends are dead, but he finally accepts the death of his loved ones when he takes the monster's hand. Then, the monster replaces some of the people seen in the boy's past memories, representing the death of those people and the boy's acceptance of their death. These are all flashbacks, as the boy has been trapped beneath rubble and is later rescued.
