I have one of these, and I love everything about it. Build is flawless and was nicely set up out of the box. It's not the same as a Gibson, of course and Mike pointed out the differences. 100% agree on the frets, awesome. Can't be the same wood coming from China, I don't care that the finish won't rub off soon, I don't really need the nibs, now do I? The tuners/hardware complaint is some deep nitpicking at the Epiphone price point. Give one a hard look, and you won't need your rose-colored glasses. It's beautiful and a wonderful guitar to play, with all the stuff that makes the great sound of Gibson SG, at half the price. Talking about quality issues in a review isn't bashing. Go shopping and you'll see it in-person. That was a problem for me when I wanted a new but traditionally Gibson style build ES-335. I ended up with a superb H-535 after comparing two, and that was a pickup preference.

Liked and Subscribed all the way from Mexico, good Sir! Down right honest review, really dig it. I've a soft spot for Epiphone as my first electric was an Epi, and now I've got four lying around! (SG G-400 among them). Really glad to see they're killing it, making great guitars, and that more people are enjoying them. Have you tried a Casino? That is one sweet, sweet guitar.

Great review! It's encouraging Epiphone quality is as good as you described.

I really like mine too, plays great and sounds so good! Great review!

Thank you for making an honest and straightforward review. That guitar will serve you every bit as well as the Gibson. I plan to buy this in White. Thanks again and I just subscribed.

I bought one 7 months ago and couldn't have been happier, always wanted a white SG but to get a 61 Les Paul SG Standard is beyond cool, it sounds so great and those pickups are beautiful and versatile, more poop and clarity than the dimarzio pafs in my hybrid strat, ive owned quite a few axes but this is the funnest to play and best bang for your buck, thanks epiphone!!!

Hey Grumpy, I recently bought a Gibson Sg Special . And I must be around your age, so these eyes of mine ain’t what they used to be. And I never noticed the tone nibs . Ya the secret is in those nibs. Ha, Ha. I like that Sg ur strumming on, I’ve been looking at those myself. Keep on Rockin Man.

Nice one, sir! I have the Epi '61 Custom, which is the next step down from yours. It has the 3-piece neck and Epi Probucker pups. It didn't come with a case, but I bought a nice EpiLite case for it for $89. I think the Custom is @ $649 right now. The Custom is Ebony, so I can't see the heel or the scarf joint anyway, so it doesn't matter to me. I love my SG. Glad you like yours.

Great review as always! I'm a big SG guy. My first guitar was an Epiphone G-400 from 2005 (a 61 RI copy like the one you are reviewing). My only gripe with this new one is that my '05 had a full gloss finish (including the headstock face) and it had a really nice dark cherry stain that looked Gibson-like. I understand the trade-off that Epi made though and I kind of agree...sacrifice the gloss finish and put those labor hours into QC or some other manufacturing step.

got mine at $589 on clearance at GC no question love the finish!
