Life in Plastic is Still Fantastic | Reviewing Vintage Barbie Fashions Part II | Sweet Histortea

Published 2023-11-13
Welcome to the second part of my vintage Barbie fashion series! I had a lot of fun making it, and I wish these clothes were still in style. It would make items a lot easier to find.

Maybe one day I’ll be able to get human-sized reproductions of these. 🥺

Nothing beats that 1959 black and white swimsuit….

I am dancing for joy! Bunch of trivia: Cotton Casual - a couple of years after this outfit (1959), Mattel came out with a pair of orange mules. This dress looks great with those heels because they pick up the color of the orange bow. (The heels that came with the dress were white.) Evening Splendor came out in a version minus the coat as Golden Girl. I love the teal corduroy clutch - an unexpected pairing, and very chic. Same outfit in an orange-gold came out in '63 as Golden Elegance. Sheath Sensation was so popular that Mattel came out with several others in '64 - a red polka dot "pak" sheath, a blue polka dot version and one in a floral print. Knitting Pretty also came in blue. They were both based on Sweater Girl (orange twin set with a grey skirt) which came out in '59. You could wear London Tour and be as sloppy as you pleased - the coat, hat and bag were all made of faux leather so no stains. 😉 Delightful video! 💖💖

The new dolls focus more on activity rather then fashion and It seems the only ones with good clothes are the collector dolls.
  • Modern ones are too revealing, classic and vintage Barbie are elegantly timeless
  • Some beautiful outfits and they look so well constructed using quality materials. Enchanted evening is my standout but honestly I can’t say that there was any I disliked.
