To be precise, the "M-62" part in the bomb designation isn't the year of production. Rather, it's the year when the bomb was designed/adopted.

M-62 means "Model of 1962". It either indicates the year it was designed or the one it entered service. It does NOT mean it was manufactured in 1962. They are still being manufactured today. Even the Wikipedia article on these bombs clearly states that for crying out loud. EDIT: There are tons of other mistakes of varying severity in the video, that need to be addressed. so here we go... The UMPKs are not fitted with "GPS trackers". You can call these electronic modules "satellite navigation modules", "GNSS modules/receivers" and other such terms to indicate they enable the bomb to use satellite navigation. GPS specifically refers to the US satellite navigation system, with its 100% US built, owned and operated satellite constellation. I don't think I need to state why it's a terrible idea to use your enemy's GNSS to guide your own bombs. Russians outfit their UMPKs with GNSS receivers designed to work with their own, domestic system, GLONASS. The kind of missile countermeasure seen dumped in the Su-34 clip at 2:54 is called "chaff" and bares 0 similarity to a flare both in looks and function. Flares are meant to distract missiles using IR seekers, and 99% of such missiles have a very short range ( e.g. MANPADS ). Chaff on the other hand is meant to provide a false target for missiles using active or semi-active radar guidance. It's essentially a puff of metallic confetti that reflects radiowaves extremely well in all directions, hence why it lights up like a Christmas tree on radar. Missiles using radar guidance are usually designed for medium up to extremely long range shots, and as such they are exactly the one single type of threat that these Su-34s flying high and far away from Ukrainian airspace must be aware of and defend against. The UMPK fitted bombs are VERY accurate. They can easily achieve a <10m CEP, as evidenced by the countless clips of them direct hitting small and medium sized targets. What you're trying to describe is their inability to engage moving targets. They don't receive real-time updates on the targeted coordinates. Once dropped they home in on the pre-entered coordinates and that's it. JDAM fitted bombs are NOT glide bombs. They are just guided bombs. It takes a single look at them to realize that. They don't have wings to sustain extended flight, only control fins at the tail to enable guidance and strakes around the middle section to enhance stability during flight. Their range is far shorter than that of the UMPK fitted bombs. If you really want to mention a comparable US weapon, a true glide bomb, you could have either mentioned the AGM-154 JSOW or any of the SDBs. Also, the JDAM kit is not "more sophisticated" than the UMPK kit. It's just more expensive. It's uses GNSS guidance to actuate some control fins and that's literally it. It's only slightly more accurate than some foreign counterparts ( including the Russian ones ), but that's got nothing to do with the weapon itself and everything to do with the inherent precision of GPS, which is slightly more precise than GLONASS. Russia didn't cOpY the extremely unoriginal Ukrainian tactics. The UMPK kits were already a thing, but production was not yet high as the JDAM made its first appearance. And by the way, they had already been using a lot of guided and gliding bombs that they had in inventory, namely guided bombs of the KAB series and gliding bombs of the UPAB series. Justin Bronk is not an "expert" by any means, he's another run of the mill grifter with no formal qualifications in military science or engineering, employed by a "think tank" of the sort that lead the decision makers in the US controlled West provoking this clownshow of a proxy war and spectacularly failing to kneel Russia from every single aspect. An "expert" of the same kin that would have had you believe Russia run out of armaments a year ago, that Ukraine would have captured Crimea last summer, that sanctions would've destroyed the Russian economy by now, that Russia has been turned into a pariah state and other delusional nonsense. He's graduated no military academy and no university course on any engineering field. Without a solid background in both military science and engineering you lack the theoritical foundation required to assess data from the field, perform complex calculations and extract deep insights. And that's especially critical when trying to make even remotely credible predictions, that all these "experts" seem to can't get enough of, dishing them at machinegun rates and falling out on every single one. Gliding bombs did play a HUGE role in the AFU's rout from Avdeevka ( yes, ROUT, not withdrawal, they were being chased down and left tons of equipment behind that were later displayed al over Russian social media circles. ). The VKS dropped dozens upon dozens upon dozens of UMPK fitted bombs every single day, for weeks, leveling every single stronghold and greatly demoralizing Ukrainian troops, that were VERY vocal about the situation on social media.
