I think the "R" key is rather fitting for this. It's right next to "E" for inventory, and is on the same line as "Q".

I've always thought that a "Pick Tool" command in the same vein as "Pick Block" would be really sweet. Especially in the new era of added functionality to the hoes and other tools. Imagine looking at a log block on a tree, hitting the "Pick Tool" button, and getting an axe in your hand.
  • Brilliant ideas! They make the game feel extremely streamlined, without being too outlandish. They actually expand on Minecraft's inventory features in the best way I've ever seen anybody come up with!

What if in the crafting guide, you could "lock" certain items to always appear near the start of the list? It would save a lot of time sorting through pages or the searchbar to find dispensers etc.
  • This is magnificent. It's so vanilla, as well... Genius. I wholeheartedly hope Mojang introduce this or something very similar.

Even if it's minor, an inventory update would be nice.

The Variant Blocks Wheel is something that you can test it by yourself. There is mod called Conquest Reforged which brings >12k of blocks with new variant types. So they created variant wheel to creative mode. It gives even more functionality like color pallete. It's really great feature and with your additions it really feels like it would work great on every game mode

It's a fantastic idea, I hadn't considered what your previous inventory update would do to the core gameplay experience of exploring and looting. This seems to be the best of both worlds. If it's not implemented via a vanilla update I'd love to see it on vanilla tweaks.
  • @avakining
Honestly, the smallest but most helpful change would just be to let the pick block key access shulker boxes too.
  • @Gorillo
this seems like the perfect soloution, the best I've seen for sure - I hope Mojang is watching...

6:20 when talking about the tools and weapons selection, my immediate thought was that it needs to be stress-tested. What happens if someone completely fills their inventory with tools/weapons? Does it matter if they are the same tool (same material and enchantments if any) and left unnamed? Would a scroll bar appear or would the list go completely off the screen? Would items that have the same selections be grouped together? I really like that the durability seems to be visible in this selection wheel, as well. That would be really important when working on a big build where you can chew through several of the same tool. Maybe people wouldn't usually have a reason to completely fill their inventory with tools, but stress-tests are more meant for the extremes that people do when goofing around and being curious anyway. I really like most of these ideas, and it was great how people using controllers and pocket edition were considered. I've tried bedrock edition when playing with some friends, and I found the ease of utilizing the controls really went a long way. It was a major adjustment (for me at least), so it's nice seeing people take it into consideration for the many players who don't get to have the choice of using a keyboard with all our fancy hotkeys and mouse.

I definitely think the shulker boxes in your inventory should also be able to effect what recipes you can make from the recipe book. That way you don't have to pull basic resources out or move them around when trying to craft something you do all the time like torches or planks
  • @secretchiley
9:33 there's actually pretty simple fix for this, just have it so middle clicking once brings up a block to your hotbar, holding down middle click gives you the new GUI.
  • This has probably been one of the most elegant and useful inventory ideas I've seen in a while. It's very simple in design but can really revolutionize ease of building. I really hope mojang is still listening to their community here, there are such good ideas that need to get implemented.
  • Amazing idea. We really need a inventory upgrade and i think the scroll one is amazing and would help out so much with the inventory sorting and would just in general be incredibly intuitive to use after seeing it for one or two times.
  • @Legundo
This feels a lot like the Dank Storage! I've seen it a lot in Vault Hunters but that mod covers a lot of this which is exciting.
  • @Bryzerse
This is a huge improvement over most inventory overhaul ideas, I think the middle click would be good, but perhaps a key like R could also work, giving you two options like sprinting. I still think that a new slot for the spyglass would make it usable though.
  • @necroseus
This is shockingly similar to an Idea I was coming up with! I would prefer it bring up a hotbar over my current one, and allow me to scroll through it instead of my base hotbar, then replace the current held item with the selected (via scroll or 1- 9 keybind). Well done!
  • @Nephelangelo
I think virtually all of the inventory issues can be solved with only three simple changes: 1. Xisuma’s “Variant Block” quick select GUI with a consistent layout between types. 2. The ability to set any hotbar slot to refill the selected item until your inventory is out. 3. The ability to combine any stackable items into a random “Pile of Stuff” stack of 64.
