What’s the movie Shutter Island about?
Discover Shutter Island: the critically acclaimed adaptation directed by Martin Scorsese of the novel by Dennis Lehano. This magnificent thriller released in 2010, features Leonardo DiCaprio as Federal Teddy Daniels, and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), two U.S. marshals assigned to investigate the disappearance of a psychiatric facility patient.
The two of them will look into the case of missing Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer) directly on the Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. There they will meet with Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley) the lead psychiatrist and head of the institution, and begin to suspect that the whole incident as well as their presence there is part of something way darker. When she says "my school is" and then THAT look, sent chills down my spine!

Leo truly has the best crying out of all male actors. It’s so real, heartbreaking, emotional, but never over-the-top.
  • The fact that DiCaprio didn’t win an Oscar for his performance in this movie, is a crime against acting. He truly showed in depth emotions for every scene. Everything was heart wrenching and he embodied everything he was supposed too
  • How does he only have 1 Oscar, he's literally one of the best actors on the planet

Leo was incredible in this movie, but Michelle Williams was nothing to forget about either. She perfectly pulled off the psychotic woman in just the few minutes of screen time she had.

I have 3 small kids. Coincidentally, 2 boys and 1 girl. This scene sent chills up my spine.
  • 4:52 Dude choked on his tears. That’s something you see when someone is for real sobbing. Crazy good acting

It’s so crazy how having kids changes you… last time I saw this was before I was a father. I always thought it was messed up and sad and all… but watching it now? I can barely stand looking at the screen. Seeing that body floating in the lake, thinking about if that was me and those were my kids, makes my stomach twist and my eyes well up uncontrollably. It’s really quite a fascinating phenomenon.

the way the birds never stop singing, and the sun never stops shining, makes you wonder. you could be enjoying a beautiful day all the while a man loses his entire family within the span of minutes.
  • The hardest scene to pull off without looking cheesy, where the character looks into the sky screaming nooooo, but my man Leo delivers with shivers.

Something that is eerily haunting about this scene, despite the obvious, is the birds cheerily chirping. Particularly once he's laid all his children down on the ground and takes his little girl's shoe off to rub her feet. Birds chirping are usually synonymous with spring and everything coming back to life. Meanwhile Andrew/Teddy's life has just crumbled. It also shows that no matter the horror of what we are dealing with at any given time, life just keeps on going - the sun rises, birds chirp, the world still turns...

He’s literally one of the greatest actors to ever live.

Keep in mind this man does not have kids. Yet he plays the grieving parent PERFECTLY. His acting skills arent "good". They are literally out of this world.

This is why Treating mental health problems is so important. Never ignore someone with mental health issues.

The use of irony is really brilliant in this scene, the fact that it’s the most gorgeous day but the most tragic thing happens
  • @BattleBound
That gunshot still made me jump like 12 years later. That's how good Leo was at getting you to forget everything except his performance.
  • It’s sad, when she set their home on fire he didn’t want to believe there was something wrong with her and moved them to the lake house, then she murdered their children, tragic, Andrew lost everything and in the end he chose to forget about them permanently
