Here's the story behind the Warden. Some of you might find this interesting. The warden was originally called "stalker" and would reside in a totem-covered biome where it would remain statue-like until some reckless player would try to grab its chest crystal, causing it to come to life.

The things about piglins: 1. Piglin is theorized as normal pigs that got experimented for ancient builder's nether portal. 2. They want too revenge to the ancient builders/ first Minecraft humans. 3. They love gold because it is the only ore in the nether that is valuable

Personally i think that the golem wandered in the caves until it found the ancient city, where there was people or something lived there it could protect. And overtime it evolved.
