I think he was just calling out pharisees and hypocrites. Giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Just a thought: I don't recall any pope being questioned and criticized and outright slandered as much as Pope Francis. Maybe our popes of Vat 2, but that was before 24 hour media. Most have been pretty much ignored. So, I wonder, what truths is he trying to both hold and convey that the devil seems hell bent on stopping us from hearing? Thanks, Michael, for the review of many of our popes statements. God bless.
  • I think the reason the interviewer asks in terms of conservative vs liberal is because it seems the liberal media uses 'conservative' as a slur. The liberal media still hopes for and thinks that Pope Francis will allow for female priests and allow gay marriage and see 'conservative' catholics as stumbling blocks to their progress of conquering the catholic church with their progressive ideology. There might be some language or translation differences here too.

I grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh religiously. Also, Glenn Beck, Steve Deace, etc....I identified as a conservative my whole life (not anymore, tho). I've had to explain to others that Pope Francis is not an American....he doesn't listen to TheBlaze or the Daily Wire.....we need to stop interpreting him as if he were an American politician.

Our Pope is more of a "fishers of men" kind of Apostle. He is a "feed my sheep" kind of person a "Peter do u love me? YES i love you Lord! So feed my lambs... my sheep", type of Pope. He is an absolutely obedient to Christs call to love all peoples regardless. This is what our current Pope puts emphasis on more than laws and tradition. These are deeds most of us struggle with in this world, hense the condition and state of our deteriorating families, communities and society at large. God is working in Pope Francis regarding our love for one another. We as Christians are failing dismally at uniting. We good at criticizing and even condemning one another. We need to uplift and build and guide each other. Thats key. This does not mean we disregard dogma or doctrine but we have to put into practise what Christ has shown and taught us by example.

i feel like this dude is the divisive catholic that he pretends to fight against.
  • @gda86pl
with all due respect - with fiducia supplicants he could also communicate better. that was unnecessary

I hate these media clips. I assure you, A LOT of context has been eliminated. I think, when we see the entirety of the interview and context, your observations will be accurate.

@Reason&Theology I proudly attend a missle of '62 mass (ICKSP) and I am also a defender of Pope Francis (and I personally know Dave Armstrong who is fighting the good fight). It can be difficult talking to my "trad" friends at times, but it's worth it
  • I understand him. Pope Francis is a south American. Some things are different there. Remember it was the English that created the most heresies. Go listen to the ragidity. They tell people what vocation they must have. People worship tradition. The English speaking world needs an attitude adjustment.
  • Everyone communicates differently. I have friends who know exactly what I'm saying...yet to my husband and sons I speak in tongues...😂

But, he did define what he was saying. " A conservative is one who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that." I get that. You can retain your faith in Christ, retain the teachings of Christ and those of the early church, and our liturgy that was formed from those beliefs, and still be open to be breezes sent by the Holy Spirit. We could walk through the garden with Jesus with our eyes shut, but think of the beauty we would miss. We want our eyes open so that we can see even more of God"s great design. I understand our pope. Let's face it, if we are actually Catholic, we are conservative by nature. Even our liberals are considered conservative by the worlds standards. What we are dealing with now are some that are SO conservative, they fear changes in the mass that have always been a priest perogative. Right now I'm thinking of the bells in mass. My heart goes out to them and remind them that Christ said "Fear not". Bring light to abuses in your parish, to be sure. If you are blessed to know the rubrics of the liturgy, by all means share your knowledge. There are 71,128,395 Catholics in the United States alone. With that many people, there will be errors, but that does not mean the church is falling apart. And before anyone freaks out about being open to the Holy Spirit, no I am not talking about gay marriage or women priests. And it is a small percentage of people that speak of that. I'm saying we all need to relax, fully participate in mass and the life of the church, and have actual conversations with your priests and fellow parishioners about what concerns you. I've seen more positive references to Catholicism (outside of our own circles) in the last few years than I did growing up in the 60's. We're doing OK. Our pope is our pope. And he knows what he is doing. I've said it before, if Jesus thought Pope Francis was dangerous, i'm sure he could take him out. peace to all.
  • Thanks for this. It's sad that some people rush to misinterpret and find fault.
  • @Gardenia1917
I love when he clarifys and says "Adjective." Very intelligent man. Isn't the word conservative a newer word from the 1800's? I don't particularly like these newer words. Conservative vs. Traditionalist, what does that really mean? Regardless of it all, I understood what he meant. Plus the question asked was a bit confusing, he actually seemed to put it in perspective. Love you Pope Francis. He has an insight that is deeper than most, maybe that is the difficulty? I would listen to his short sermons at his daily Mass in Rome when the Covid was going on. He says profound things with few words. I missed seeing him everday for Mass after it went off the air. Maybe he is just above us in spiritual thought, maybe we should listen a little closer to some of the other words he said in those 38 seconds. Anxious to hear the rest of the interview.

Oh cmon just say it, traditionalism tends to be more of an american problem cause the Catholics there don't come from decent backgrounds. America was built on Protestant ideas and also made up of pretty much mostly lower class people of Europe. It's a deeply personal issue, they're trying to solve by adopting certain values and a mass rite!
  • @TBA92124
God bless us all conservative Catholics throughout the world.

Those who misinterprete the truth, they are accountable. Thank you for your clear explanation. God bless you.🙏👌
