This is excellent content Matt - well done!
  • Enjoyed the video, looking forward to see more, so I have subscribed. There are not many of us off-grid expats here in Thailand.

Hi Matt, I recently moved to Thailand and planning to do the exact same as you. Farm powered by solar and batteries. Thanks for sharing. Will be following along closely

Great video with useful costs. Small point that battery capacity is in KWh , Kilowatt hours, but KW Solar panel prices are falling this year. It is a great time to invest in solar power
  • Great update Matt! Everything on the farm is looking great, especially the 🐕 . Great insight on the poly vs mono solar panels. As Tony said, seems to be a no brainer. I assume the third installation for the workshop was Mono as well yes? Do you regret not using them on the ground water pump now or do the Poly suit that application fine at the lower cost?
  • Hi Mark...yes the 3rd installation was monocrystalline as well. I seem to have missed a spec list for no 3 so I will add that to the description too. As for the poly vs mono on the water pumpost of the time it isnt an issue because the ground pump only operates when you use water from the tank. So you dont always need toaximum power transfer ...where as with system 2 and 3 mppt is a bit more critical dependant on tasks required to be completed!

Awesome as ever Matt. You make some really good points about choosing whether to DIY or get professional installers in. Poly vs Mono crystalline seems to be a no-brainer from your description. Is it such a noticeable difference in performance? Can’t wait to come and visit. Some good flights to Penang via Bangkok and we can always break the journey up to head up to the farm.
