I live in the US, and though I'm a graduate student but we have one Indian undergrad student who use to live with us in the same apartment and now he comes almost every other day to see what we have cooked, we always try to keep food for him in the fridge. He can't cook so we share with him. We go to Desi hotels together. We have a very good bond. It's the media that is making people hate each other.
