In other words, MatPat trying to at first analyse Kane's version of the backrooms with the backrooms lore from the community was never gonna work xD
  • @MatthewPlate
They said his version was wrong, now it's the one everyone knows.
  • @peopleperson
the backrooms is a lot less scarier when there are hundreds of levels and shit, older version was definitely more unsettling
  • "If you're not careful and you noclip [a] out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you" - Anonymous, 4chan (May 13, 2019) [1] OG backrooms post from what I could find
  • "Everything is canon." Yeah take the SCP approach, means that anyone can do what they want with the concept without the need to tie it in with a canon

The funny thing is, his rendition is closer to the original creepypasta than the new ones with all of the different levels, this one is just the one simple plane of existence that pulls people into it, the only difference being the government stuff and the creatures, other than that it's more like the original creepypasta than what people have made
  • I find Kane’s Backrooms to be a bit more subtle and effective as Analog horror. It isn’t just some weird place with a bunch of monsters shoved into it. There seems to be an evolution happening and a timeline of events. The people who discovered it are not considering the ramifications of the dimension’s appearance that seems tailored to human living as if it was built by something seeking residents.
  • Your interpretation of this made up thing is different from my interpretation of this made up thing and that makes me mad
  • The problem with the copy pasta is that it how it loses a lot of the creepiness that the back rooms originally had. The wiki for it has all these levels communities and explanations. It feels less creepy and more like a teen novel. Kane really brought back the unknown that made the whole experience fun
  • @-bugbite
hey that’s a bit weird to cut kane off at the end. He actually said he thinks everything is canon to itself
  • @epicbro5453
As an SCP fan, we are immune to this issue lol Edit: Everyone who says SCP is dead, I disagree. There is still a very active fanbase, it's not dead just because you don't watch the YouTube videos anymore
  • @aaronl19
I like this interpretation. Back rooms should be a setting for peoples own stories. Do you want an empty, unsettling liminal space that is devoid of any life? Go for it. You want a space where monsters dwell and is more horror-esque? It’s your story to tell, which there are many that have and have-yet to be told
  • I wanted to make a DnD campaign inspired by the backrooms a while back, and while I was researching a website with info on all the levels and stuff, I found comments on YouTube talking about how "it's not even really the backrooms" "the wiki is just trying to be SCP" and comments like that killed all my motivation and inspiration to make it. It doesn't matter, there's no official backrooms, it's all just fun internet folklore. There's no right or wrong interpretation, and as long as people are having fun with it then there's nothing wrong with anyone's interpretation. Just have fun.
  • @LostRebound
It's like SCP where everything is cannon and not cannon at the same time.
  • @joan_of_craft4690
The whole “multiple cannons” is something that the scp universe does so damn well. It should be picked up by more of these sorts of fandoms.
  • @Code_Ax0
He thinks everything is canon to itself!! You cut off the main word for that entire sentence!! 😭💀
  • @Arachnid-Man
No way! What... He didn't know the backrooms community existed.
  • @decemberkris
The "old one" hasn't been forgotten, its just that Kane's backrooms gained way more attraction than the wikidot. I prefer the wiki dot, but kane's is definitely very very entertaining to watch.
  • I don't understand why people are so upset, Kane's channel does the least to mess with the lore and really just expands what's already there. It's the billion other copycat channels that were just making backrooms animations to keep up with the trend, and I feel like Kane is blamed for a lot of things he never actually did in his particular series. His feels the most accurate if you were to try and explore the very short and basic premise that was first created on 4chan. It feels like the characters in Kane's universe saw the 4chan post and just started looking, and ended up documenting it which is all the found footage. It doesn't feel like a replacement of the old lore, it feels like a response to it.
