Synopsis: When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

    What is odd is that the Old Gods seem numerous yet they say they are being outnumbered by the New Gods. Yet, we have barely met much new gods, and I mean truly new...Vulcan and Biliquis are old gods that just rebranded. It seems this was the case even in the books, it definitely needs more new gods introduced.

    What I love about American Gods is the concept about worship giving the old gods power in contrast to time and energy we spend on or using things and concepts being what gives the New Gods power. It is interesting that most old gods don't want to rebrand...they prefer specific worship instead of feeding off the time spent on their concept. For instance...love will always be relevant among many other things. But what may happen is that the various gods that represent love will be sort of fused as one god to represent that concept. I am just throwing out theories...I think rebranding sorts of leads overtime to oneness going off what Mr World said in season 1. As Globalization grows culture and ideologies become more similar than different. The concepts behind things will eventually become more and more shared by the masses. I know in the books the truth about Mr. World but I hope Mr World is an actual true New God in the series because his concept is all encompassing and ultimately the death of individuality. The new gods are clearly fewer but their power should be far beyond the old.....so far the series is not giving me that impression. Media is such a powerful force. The media can influence the worldview of what is true and false, ideas, etc. Yet we hear an incarnation of her died....definitely waiting to hear why that is. This is the fun part of the series for me, thinking up the dynamics behind the gods and their powers.
