What I love most about this DIY board and batten is that we put the baseboard above the trim instead of having the trim pieces butt up to the baseboard. This gives it a more built-in look that I really love!

If you don't glue the joints, in time the joints will show. Even if you wood fill them, the wood will expand and contract with temperature changes and the seams will show. So glue them or better yet prebuild the whole unit with the Kreg pocket hole jig system screws.

I’m interested in skimming my walls. Is it difficult to do?

We are looking into doing some batten walls in our house. Seems easy enough to do and we have all measurements for lengths and widths we would need. My one question would be what type of wood did you use? And lastly, was there a reason you didn’t use already primed boards? We are just trying to be as efficient as possible and it seems like you or your husband may have more insight to the right type of boards to use than we do!
