Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust “I Was One Of Them” (English)
The epic scene in the animated film of 2000, Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust, in which the aged mechanic named Poe stands up on behalf of D. The story he tells is incredible. He was “One of Them” and always wanted to repay his hero.

So yes. In case you were wondering, the voice of the Old man Pope is in fact, John DiMaggio, also known for voicing Bender in Futurama and Jake the Dog
-
I can't believe we didn't get at least 10 movies out of this production team. This movie, with its scenic shots, is gorgeous. It deserves to be watched on a movie theater.
-
Old man probably saved the sheriff and the other guys' lives.
-
„They can’t be trusted“ after hearing the story is literally „the pot calling the kettle black“
-
Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri is a grossly underrated artist His style is beyond gorgeous. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust movie is a must watch for all anime fans.
-
I like how this movie has both European and Western vibes in its influence. This scene with the sheriff is clearly reminiscent of those old western movies.
-
I cried when the old man said he was one of those helpless kids D rescued!!!!
-
I still don't understand how Vampire Hunter D as a franchise, never got bigger than it did. There's so much potential for newer anime films or series or even for Hollywood (with the right people) to adapt it. And the thing is, not only does it have fans, the franchise's lore and setting will help it gain new ones.

The old man's story about the kidnapped children saved from the vampires by D would make an awesome movie or mini series
-
When he thanks D for saving him as a kid, I think that is one of the novels
-
This came out when I was in highschool. And they've never made another one since. Or animation like this
-
One of the best wriiten scene in standalone animation. It enhances both the main character and the world they're in. Making them feels much larger without having to actually showing it.
-
This scene was always one of my favorites in this movie because it shows that no matter how cruel humans were to D he never harmed them because that side of himself means a lot to him because he wants the life of a human knowing he never can have it
-
Such a good movie. Nearly 25 years old and it still holds up incredibly well. Interesting story, amazing artwork, great animation. Shame it's such a rarity these days.
-
What amazing art, you can see the reflection on the glasses, the rifling of weapons, back then anime was just art. Each picture was a story alone.

Something I noticed while rereading the novels [since they're being republished as three-volume omnibi now] and something I really like is the theme that it is not D's story to tell. He's aloof and distanced from the narrative as a whole, seeing as he's lived for so long and seen so much, but it's a story more about the people he encounters along the way as he travels and plies his trade. We see the world and its inhabitants through his eyes, and sometimes there's focus on D as a character, but for the most part it's kind of telling that despite the fact that the world around him changes so much, D himself just ... doesn't. Something I like to think is captured in this scene right here, actually; Pop remembers him from when he was a kid, because D just simply doesn't change. The strangest mash of genres happened with this series and I'm extremely in love with it, from classic monster horror to cosmic horror, post-apocalyptic fantasy and steampunk meeting American western. We're coming up on almost twenty years since Bloodlust, maybe they'll bring out the long-rumored third movie then, seeing as how it took them just about twenty years to release Bloodlust after the first one from the 80s haaa Kinda hoping it'd be Raiser of Gales or Pilgrimage of the Sacred and Profane; gunning for the latter because that deals more on D's parentage and his own personal quest, which for the book series is kind of out of the ordinary but would be perfect pacing for a movie series
-
God the animation, voice acting and music to this are still a masterpiece twenty three years later. Like D himself, it doesn't age.
-
Nice to hear Bender's voice actor from years ago
-
He dun the job. Fuck yeah he did.

What ever happened to those vampires in the movie lore who made gothic shuttles and traveled into space? Do they still dwell amongst the stars?
