I'm a southern California girl too. My parents never took me to a school activity, a sports activity, a play date etc,, etc, etc. NOTHING. I was a happy child. Loved my parents and they loved me (alot!). I turned out fine and happy. Ive had a wonderful, fun, fascinating marriage. I enjoy each day. Children just need strong & kind & loving parents. They don't need graduation from the 4th grade processions, lessons on how to sketch a bowl of fruit or how to collect arrowheads. If they want to do those things encourage them to do them on their own. Ive spent hours & hours in our county library reading about the planets. I did this on my own & it taught me at a young age that people didn't have to file opportunities under my nose trying to see if one 'stuck'....I did it on my own. Plus, my parents had time to live a restful! Peaceful life of their own. We were ALL so happy!!

I recommend the Thursday Murder Club books by Richard Osman. Mystery and lots to think about friendship and aging.

Slow living is my idea of a life well lived. Not always possible but I savor it when I can!

I highly recommend the memoir called "The Undertaker's Wife" by Dee Oliver. It's so funny, sad but hopeful and encouraging...all the things.

My grandmas diary is a wonderful podcast about a teen going through the great depression. I fell in love with Elizabeth and the many characters in her diary. Highly recommend!

I loved your essay in Victoria Magazine made my heart glow. I love writing letters and cards. My grandmother instilled this love in me. She was my first pen pal after my parents divorce as long distance calls were rather expensive back then and my mother rather I write to my grandmother. It was always exciting to pick the perfect paper and sticker to adorn my letters. I am a huge fan of Agatha Christie as well and Poirot is my favorite literary character. He adds just that secret ingredient that makes her storytelling perfect.

You said in one of your videos a while back that “The Secret Garden” was one of you favorite books. For your FALL reading list you might want to look at”Unearthing The Secret Garden” by Marta McDowell. It’s about FHB’s gardening. She didn’t just write about it, she did it.

Jennifer, have you ever read Diary of a Provincial Lady by E.M. Delafield? It is a fictional diary of a 1930s house wife and all of her trails and tribulations as she tries to run an orderly English house hold. It is a very fun read that gives a lot of insight into women's loves during that time.

I love biographies and taking deep dives into interesting people and events. 🌻

I'm reading The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. I read it long ago, but have enjoyed reading it again. Also, since you love mysteries, I was wondering if you've read any of Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series. Love your channel!

Good morning Jennifer from the U.K. 23/24. I no longer have children around but what a super craft project. However, like you; I too enjoy reading and also have one ‘soft’ book and one deeper more macabre historic series to which there are six books in the set. ‘Dissolution’ ‘Dark Fire’ ‘Sovereign’ ‘Revelation’ ‘Heartstone’ ‘Lamentation’. by the author C J Sanson; a number one bestseller but who sadly died earlier this year. I can highly recommend the whole series to anyone who likes historical. Enjoy all your reading and I agree Agatha Christie books are the best mystery novels. Thank you also for mentioning ‘The Edwardian Lady’. You reminded me that I have a copy of The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady but hadn’t seen the other book for ages. So, I got up quickly and went straight to my bookshelf and there it was, safe and sound but not next to The Country Diary where it was supposed to be, but on another shelf. I now have another book to re-read as part of my summer reading. Thank you Jennifer; it’s made my day. 👏
