The suit is hiding most of the spring lock malfunctions. The only reason you see the first ones is because the cupcake ripped a hole into it. But even as they're dragging him away you can see him writhing and twitching from the other locks going off. And maybe they decided to have him unmask to show the pain since they figured it would be hard to scream with crushed ribs and punctured lungs to begin with.
