A cute stray cat I met on an island full of stray cats in Istanbul. He was a very playful and energetic tabby cat. I gave him dry food and then stroked him and played with him. In this video you will see a loving stray cat purring.

Maybe you should back off the cat for a bit so it comes back on the "safe" side of the fence. It probably went over there because you were so close and all over it.
