In this video we'll take a look at a new GMRS HT release from Radioddity. It's the BaoFeng UV-5 G Plus.

This radio is sold in a single pack or dual! The dual includes a programming cable and two 15.5 inch flexible antennas.

If you like the styling of the UV-5 radios, you'll love this one. too.

Radioddity provided the radio for this review. It's currently listed in the Amateur Radio section of their website or search UV-5G Plus.

Here's a link to my book titled The New Operator's Guide to GMRS. It's available on Amazon.com.

Sounds like you’ve been doing commercial radio or voice overs, for a long time! Thanks for your content!

Slick trick. Got one in the cart after this second recommendation. Thanks

Hi, thanks for the review of this baofeng radio. Why is it that some Amazon and YouTube reviewers mentioned that this particular gmrs radio has 7 watts power output, and you’re saying it’s only 5?

Will the SWR drop further down with a longer antenna like a tactical antenna❓

When it can be opened for ham bands i will buy one. As I have both licenses i will want to use it for both apposed to carrying 2 radios

One good thing, your mention of that repeater website led me to a repeater within range, though it's in the opposite from ideal direction. Still, gives me hope. A mast and a base station was just too much.

I received the UV-5G Plus today, and found that Channel 18's programming is wrong for TX (transmit), which I verified on the HT and the CPS. Seeing on your video (CPS Snapshot @16:30), the CPS shows the same, in which Channel 18's TX is set to 462.56250 MHz, which is actually Channel 1 (offset of -5.0000 MHz). Something else I noticed, is that for menu option #43 (Power-On Password), they don't give instructions on how to change the factory code from "000000", or tell you to use the Menu button as an "Ok" to submit the code. Decent little HT but has a few bugs that need sorting out. I'm really surprised the channel programming error made it all the way to release and wasn't caught.

Don't understand why all these radios all went color screen.... They are pretty awful to be read under sunlight. This is an outdoor radio, not a handheld smartphone.
  • Hi, Jim. I’m trying to decide between the UV-5G and the GM-30, and I’m wondering if you recommend one more than the other? Or does it not matter?
  • @Jfrodriguez78
Does anyone know if it can be unlocked to transmit beyond GMRS? Amateur, etc?
  • @John-77777
Nice review, are the CTCSS codes turned off and are they programable? Would these radios talk to my other gmrs radios?
  • @manny5065
Will the programming cable for the GM-30 work on this radio?
  • @goosecouple
Hi, does its display lit up when the squelch opens ?
