Also "stealing" designs is fine when you're making it for yourself. The problem comes when you're trying to sell it as your own.
  • Just a note - as someone who does work at Fabricland, you should always wash your fabric first before sewing with it. Some of the materials shrink after the initial wash, it also helps with those unknown stains and marks. :)
  • "Making things yourself is cheaper" can be true, but only if you have the equipment to do so, specifically the sewing machine. You can get a cheap one, but they don't work well (in most cases) HOWEVER, a lot of libraries now have a "library of things" you can rent! One sort of local library by me has a ton of crafting tools and a quilting sewing machine! And it's completely free to use if you have a library card.
  • If nobody has said it yet, I donā€™t feel like you have to match colors for projects like this if you like other colors more. This could be a fun series!
  • The fact that you felt kinda guilty about not including the price of a sewing machine and then decided to do a giveawayšŸ˜šŸ˜Mia you are way too good to usšŸ˜ā™„ļø
  • I feel like a proud parent watching Mia. Her skills have developed massively over the years watching her. Amazing work.
  • Can we just mention how she always totally underrates her sewing and creative skills? This girl is so talented in many ways and so modest and sweet

Having lived with a medieval reenactor during uni, I will add that it is absolutely possible to sew this by hand. My housemate and her reenactment group would have sewing circles every Thursday where everyone would come over and hang out while hand sewing their costumes with historically accurate hand stitching techniques. They sewed the whole shebang from shifts and petticoats up to riding cloaks. If they could completely hand sew some of the amazing ten layer masterpieces they did, then these simple patterns are completely doable. More time consuming, yes, but those who like crocheting or knitting can attest that it's a very calming and meditative process. So, even if you don't have a sewing machine or the money to get one, definitely you can give this a go!
  • The urge I have to fight to not pick up sewing as a new hobby is ridiculousšŸ˜…, but Iā€™m glad I get to live vicariously through these videosšŸ’œ

Mia as a plus size girl, i just wanna say thank you for always including me in your videos and thinking about EVERYONE in your clothing videos, makeup videos, etc šŸ„² you are THE most inclusive and kindhearted soul ā€” donā€™t ever change ā¤ļø
  • Iā€™ve noticed recently that SHEIN has gone up in price and isnā€™t really anymore affordable than other fast fashion brands like H&M or Primark in some cases. Iā€™ve been trying to buy things second hand online and only shop fast fashion when I really canā€™t afford or find anything. We can all do our bit to reduce fast fashion impact !
  • As a plus size girl who literally gets anxiety when I shop anywhere, I really appreciate this video. It really gives me the confidence to make my own fashionable clothes. The amount of times I find things that I love and have to put back because my size isn't available is so sad.
  • It's inspiring to see how confident you've become in your abilities in the last couple years! Good for you, Mia!
  • There are libraries (at least in Australia) where you can rent a sewing machine for free! You just book in how long you need and use the sewing machine room šŸ¤— Love this idea btw of making your clothes instead of giving the company more money šŸ«¶

I'm gonna be honest this video has encouraged me to pick up my sewing hobby again and start making my own clothes again! Thank you Mia I love your videos!
  • I think you have moved beyond calling yourself an amateur sewer!! THIS WAS INCREDIBLE
  • a note for my bigger and curvy gals guys and pals!! As a bigger girl who is an intermediate sewest. sewing is great to make cloths that make you feel amazing. I will say if you try to use patterns even when using exact measurements I still find that cloths don't fit my proportions. If that happens don't let it get you down! It was super discouraging to me when I first started, I found myself thinking "there has to be something wrong with me if even cloths I made myself don't fit." THATS NEVER THE CASE. its always the cloths not you!! tracing cloths you own is the best way to get a good win under your belt before going to patterns (something I wish I did) so i absolutely adore this video and I hope it get's more people making their own cloths it can be so rewarding even with the huge ups and downs!!!

Mia, I just want to say I find it so admirable that you just dive into projects regardless of whether you have any relevant experience. I often see a project I want to do but Iā€™m so afraid that Iā€™ll be bad at it that I never do it. Like I would be so scared to dye a piece of clothing or sculpt polymer clay earrings or TILE MY WHOLE FREAKING KITCHEN/ BATHROOM so I just never would. You inspire me to just dive in and not be afraid of mistakes and embrace the learning curve! Thank you!! ā¤
  • Mia giving away a sewing machine is the most "Mia" thing ever. I actually got a Singer sewing machine for my birthday in high school, but I didn't use it for a long time. In the past year, I've gotten a lot more into sewing, so I'm really grateful that I already had one. Knowing how to hand sew is super important, but having a sewing machine definitely makes things easier if you're trying to repair or make adjustments to larger items.
