ABOUT ME: Hallo, Servus, and welcome to my channel! My name is Felicia (Feli), I'm 29, and I'm a German living in the USA! I was born and raised in Munich, Germany but have been living in Cincinnati, Ohio off and on since 2016. I first came here for an exchange semester during my undergrad at LMU Munich, then I returned for an internship, and then I got my master's degree in Cincinnati. I was lucky enough to win the Green Card lottery and have been a permanent resident since 2019! In my videos, I talk about cultural differences between America and Germany, things I like and dislike about living here, and other topics I come across in my everyday life in the States. Let me know what YOU would like to hear about in the comments below. DANKE :)

No, the steering wheel is not on the right side! 😅 I see that a lot of people in the comments are confused about this but no, we're not driving a British car. The video is just mirrored because we filmed this with the front camera of the phone. It automatically gets mirrored this way and honestly, in times of TikTok and other social media platforms, I'm so used to the mirrored videos that I didn't even think about mirroring it back while editing.
Thanks for the great feedback guys! We're so glad you're enjoying the video 😊

Ben did shockingly well. It is clear that he has learned a solid amount of functional German already.
  • @Josh_Exitcamper
I spoke only Klingon to my imaginary girlfriend for 7 years.

Du musst das öfter machen, es gibt keine schönere und leichtere Möglichkeit eine Sprache zu lernen, als mit dem Lebenspartner dessen "Geburtssprache" das ist. Ich fand das echt prima 😊

This brings back many memories for me. When I first met my wife 35 years ago in Lima Peru, she knew no English and I knew practically zero Spanish. Although I'm fluent in English and German she was not. She was only fluent in Spanish. But somehow we managed to communicate and we fell madly in love with one another and 6 months later we married in Lima, Peru. We have four children all married and so far five grandchildren. She became fluent in English over the years and I am becoming fluent in Spanish. Love knows no boundaries or limitations and truly is the universal language that transcends words.

As someone that is studying German this was so much fun. Ben did great! I really enjoyed this video because it gave me a rare chance to hear German spoken in a conversation instead of just random sentences. Thanks! I'd give two thumbs up if I could!😊
  • @DanielRWomack
I think Ben did fantastic! Kept up his humor and spirits despite the self doubts early on. Big props to him for getting through it and loads of support as he continues to learn!
  • @dieWeltkarte
Kudos to Ben, he did great! This should be an annual series as his German gets better and better.

It's good that people get to see things like this and come to understand that German isn't an angry language. Feli speaks very clearly too and makes it easier to hear each word separately. It reminded me of being a kid in the 1970s, and the kids we usually played with (Kretschmann), their parents had moved them all here from Germany. Their mom only spoke German, so the kids helped me learn a little bit of German, "She's asking if you would like a soda.", and how to respond, "Bitte." and "Vielen Dank.", stuff like that. She was very nice, like Feli.

A day like this may be frustrating for Ben, but if you do it regularly, it‘s the best way for him to learn. I used to speak English with my wife from Nordfriesland on the weekends, and we spoke Plattdüütsch on Tuesdays. (Yeah, a guy from Ohio can learn Platt, is doch keen Hexenwaark.) I only ever spoke English with my kids who were growing up in Germany. Keep it going and hang in there, Ben, you‘ll be fluent in bairisch before you know it, gell?

Ben's pronounciation in german is really good! Especially in words he heard the first time like "scheinwerfer"! He is a "Naturtalent"
  • @sierrafoxtrot666
war schön zu hören, dass du mal wieder mehr deutch sprichst...dein Freund hat schon viel gelernt, seine Aussprache ist richtig gut...gerne mal wieder so ein contenthand-pink-waving
  • @sawdust2556
Wunderbar! This was so much fun! Ben did awesome!❤
  • @JackieBaisa
OMG! You are both adorable! Ben did really well! I'm impressed, honestly. I love that he's taking lessons through a conversation partner with similar interests. That's cool too! Great job, enjjoyed the video immensely. I was smiling and laughing the whole time!
  • @icarusthefoolish
As a German myself this was hilarious to watch but also incredibly sweet. I've gotten so used to you talking in English that i did a double take when you spoke German. Another fun thing i am fluent in German with being German myself yet i found myself looking at the English translations anyway.
  • @yuusuga
Ben did really good. He definitely understands a lot. Even his pronunciation is real good. Props to him!
  • @st3althyone
You make me want to learn German more than ever; thank you, Feli. Also, thank you, Ben, for going along with this experiment. We all appreciate it.
  • @ulisescabrera1058
This is such a nice change of content from you Feli. Its fun seeing you and Ben in a more natural setting where we can see how Deutsch is naturally spoken. Feli is such an amazing person. Keep at it 🎉🎉
Also it was nice seeing my self taught Deutsch made me understand about half what was being said without subtitles 😊 🇩🇪!!
  • @SelfReflective
Ben is so privileged! He has the best teacher, I would love having the same opportunity...total immersion in the language and you can ask her anything. That's the best way to learn.
  • @cubbance
I was unsure of how much German I retained from studying, and I'm happy to report that I understood at least as much as Ben, if not a little bit more, haha. This video was really cute and entertaining. Thanks to Ben for allowing himself to look a bit lost in translation.
