Whilst expensive gifts are such a treat, people don't realise they also create a benchmark to every other gift that comes thereafter, especially for the person doing the gifting. i started crying when u cried reading the letter & opening the gift - you can tell that the gesture in and of itself means so so much to her. for her to return the bag & use that money towards their future goals, I think, is a mature and financially sound decision. I can see how some people would see it as rude or inconsiderate, but the way that I see it, she's delaying that short-term gratification of a nice bag for THEIR future together. she has her priorities straight.
