On Saturday, March 16th, 2002 my son was born just prior to the Red Wings game against the Boston Bruins. Boston won the game 3 to 1. Drapes scored the only Wings goal. A decade later I told him about it at a signing event. Drapes thought it was really cool that I remembered that and sent my son a lot of signed memorabilia.

The Art Ross trophy is not for the leading goal scorer, but for the leading point holder. (goals plus assists) It is the Rocket Richard trophy that is given to the leading goal scorer.

I'm surprised Ricky wasn't the goalie for the prison team!

The prison was worried about the sticks?! Not the knifes on thier feet? Ok....

So they have sensors in the puck that measure speed and distance traveled, yet no one has thought to put any in them and the posts to tell if a puck completely crosses the goal line. Curious.

Art Ross Trophy is for most points. Scoring is usually in reference to goals

Why nothing about the old glow puck from the late 90s by FOX Sports? Technically that was the first electronic tracker used in the NHL. It used IR LEDs in the puck that the TV cameras would be able to detect. Speed of the puck was also tracked with the system where on the TV broadcast the blue glow shown on the puck would change to a red dot with comet-like tail when the puck traveled past a predetermined speed.

The Art Ross trophy is named after him for the same reason for the naming of a lot of NHL trophies. He presented it to the NHL. Just like The Stanley Cup is named after Lord Stanley, he was far from a championship hockey player, he was a politician. He donated the cup as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, but the NHL renamed it. Art Ross is a Hall of Fame player, and was a VERY successful coach. He couldn't of played long in the "NHL" considering the NHL was founded during his last season. But he dominated in the NHA, which was the league the NHL came from. NHA records 100% are recognized as NHL records.
  • Hextall also was the first goalie to score a goal in the playoffs..... and let's be real, while he wasn't the first to be credited with one, he was the first to actually score one.

should be noted the BLUES DID NOT HAVE ANY PICKS till the 3rd round so saying they missed out on Hall of famers taken in the first round is a little misleading
  • 18:07 I was looking for misspelled names but all I could see was "ASS TRAIN" on the cup. Also "ASS MAN" too.
  • This was great. I didn't know most of this! That's awesome. Especially the DRW V. MPP that was great. I'm from MI, i love the Wings!! Great job! Subscribed

    Excellent information and presentation!

Pretty sure the electronic pucks are not always used. I've cut game pucks open and both were regular.

How many penalty minutes were handed out in the detroit vs inmate game?

What's the point of including the octopus story, if you don't bother to explain WHY an octopus? For those who don't know, there were fewer rounds at the time so if you swept your way to the cup if took 8 games. Hence the octopus.

Fun Fact:John Tucker was the only player trade for himself. In January of 1990 he was trade from the Sabers to the Capitals for future consideration. Then in July of that year exactly 7 months later he was traded from the Capital back to the Sabers for future consideration.

Well technically it wasn’t an NHL game, although it was a game involving an NHL team Would be a good topic for a video of its own
