White Holderman Cemetery

Published 2021-07-25
Today's adventure takes us to White-Holderman Cemetery in Morris, Illinois. This nearly 200 year old cemetery sits on corporate private property and has been forgotten for decades. With the help of a member of the county historical society, I was able to obtain access to this lost piece of history. Aside from the work crews that cleared to cemetery for us, we could be the first to enter the cemetery since a cleanup and dedication ceremony that happened in 1976. So come along as we explore this fantastic cemetery that's been lost to time.

The little ones with initials are usually footstones. I noticed a few in this little cemetery.
  • I have a good list of cemeteries to visit but let me know if there's an interesting cemetery I need to check out and I'll add it to my list. Right now I'm focusing on the midwest but hopefully I'll get out to other areas of the country in the future.

My table tonight at work told me about this video. Zappia (which is the same last name as my grandma anne glasgow). Very exciting, thank you for this work. Awesome channel and all in the area so I can connect. That George White stone and the way you put the text over it is a nice touch. I want to look up William white now, lol!
  • I carry chalk when we go to old cemeteries and if time water and a soft brush. Headstone cleaner is a joke... Keep up the good work.
