Lauri: Oh WOW! Look at the colour of this, it really fits with my hoodie and what I’m wearing! 😁
  • @Tech Notice What would you recommend to connect four (4) mechanical hard drives, each 4TB for total 16TB?

15” M3 Air / 24GB / 1TB is my daily driver… for WINDOWS. I’ve used Intel MBPs with Parallels/Windows as my primary work (IT) machine for about 10yr, but I thought the M chips made this the end of that road. Boy was I wrong. I had NO IDEA until a couple of months the ago just how far Win11 on ARM has come. It’s pretty unreal. The performance and stability I’m getting out of this combo are stunning to me, and I’m shocked at just how many of the apps I run are ARM64 already and don’t need emulation. Yes, I know my M3 Air specs put it within $100 of a baseline Pro, but I just like the design of the 15” Air much better and don’t need HDMI or more TB. Anyway, can’t recommend M3 Air running Parallels with Win11 ARM enough, if you’re a Windows person.
  • I'm a Workstation with Server sort of guy, and I have never owned a laptop. With the M series SOC chips, I think Apple is a winner for laptops. For everything else its Threadrippers, Xeons and updateable hardware.

what's your opinion of the new matebook x pro of huawei?

I do really high poly zbrush 3d on a daily basis using the same MacBook air, it's amazing and doesn't get hot or loud.

Great review. If you turn it on Low Power Mode, it extends the battery life quite a lot without taking away any noticeable performance because it uses those efficiency cores.

I have a question that has never been answered: Is the MacBook Air powerful enough for graphic design, specifically for static content without video or animation? I've always wondered if this laptop can handle the multitude of Photoshop layers or the complexity of creating a logo design with numerous artboards.

The MacBook Air M series is a work of Art. No question. But the Software lack of extra control is a problem. A windows computer has more benefits. I'm running X-lite and windows 11 is King. I installed the Defender free yes defender is gone and the computer works amazingly. The upgradeability is also a problem for a MacBook. I'm running a Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 AMD (14") OLED with RTX™ 4060, 32gigs RAM. 7.1gigs SSD Read speeds. I paid 1,630.00 Canadian. Cheaper for sure. The only think MAC has is battery. Fan is not really that much of a problem but yes MAC spoiled me. lol. The MAC you bought here in Canada is 2,250.00. I encode in Davinci with AMD selected as the encoder which syncs with the Nvidia GPU. I encode 4k video at an average 200 frames per second. That's Huge. Also I can game. It's all about that Battery and silence. The screen is really nice but OLED fixed the PC market for quality.

I recently purchased a new 15 inch MacBook Air Laptop Computer. I am of the opinion that 8gb of memory is not enough, a person should purchase this computer with at least 16gb of memory. I purchased this MacBook Air to replace an old 2015 MacBook Pro. I purchased the 15 inch MacBook Air with 512gb of flash storage and with the maximum 24gb of memory. One of the reasons I did this is because with this System on a Chip construction that is used by Apple Silicon computers, the memory is not expandable. A person is permanently stuck with the amount of memory that they order Apple computers with.

External ssd … then you sacrifice all the mobility of the device. Non-replaceable and low storage and low ram are real concerns ..
  • @TazzSmk
I would not consider this laptop design as Windows user, because at 15" it should have had numerical keyboard (yea I know Apple users don't really use it, but it's essential for me, especially with non-english layouts I often work with), and also more connectivity WITHOUT dongles
  • I wish you had gotten the 24GB ,,,,,,WOW! still loving it! Thermal throttling goes away with heat thermalpads 1.5mm .... stays 100% like MBP and keeps rendering
  • @JakkiPi
I wonder if they fixed the docking issue. There is no officially supported Apple dock. You want multiple extended displays on a dock by plugging in a single USB C?? Not so easy!

Spring 2011 Sandy Bridge came out: I bought Asus P8P67 Deluxe, i5 2500K + 8 GB (2x4) Corsair OC RAM. Back then there were no DDR3 8 GB bars - otherwise I would have taken 2x8 GB. 13 (!!!) years later I also get 8 GB of RAM from Apple in the basic configuration of a MacBook Air. According to Apple, this is fine: An Apple employee justified the decision with “the majority of our customers use an Air for social media, Office + YouTube (watching videos). Of course, 8 GB of RAM is enough for these tasks - but then why an M3 chip? I'm confused.
