New Steam Toy

Published 2023-03-07
A short video to get a new old steam toy won through an online auction. While an ultimate success, the trip proved challenging. Since selling my Lidgerwood hoist back in 2001 I'd been looking for another one. Ideally, a two drum is preferred. There was one in the auction but this one appeared in better condition. The hoist construction is modular so it might be possible to find the missing parts. Pause video as necessary to read text and subtitles. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Notifications are good too. Thanks.

Cool been looking for one for a while. I just bought a steam anchor winch off a ship in New Orleans. Should have it here in a couple weeks.

On the tire dilemma, I knew my tires on my Chevy would need replaced before I got back to S Tx after a trip up home to S Mi. I got a set of Hankook while up home. Very happy with em and so is my Mrs with the set on her car. Just Saying , glad your trip was a success 👍
  • Comox Logging and Railway Company had 6 Lidgerwood skidders operating during the 1920s to the late 1940s on Vancouver Island. They were used for log yarding and loading rail cars with logs. There is still a steam yarder being operated for demonstration purposes in Port Albernie but I don't know if it uses a Lidgerwood hoist or not. There is some machinery at the forestry museum in Duncan BC but I don't know if any of it is still operational. I think they still have an operating Shay locomotive though.

You should be able to find parts, there are lots of those hoists around and some have been converted to electric. Just put the word out and keep looking.
