Timothy Owen Desmond, Ph.D returns to mind meld!
In this brain-melting transmission, we riff on the surprising connections between ancient wisdom (both eastern and western) and modern physics. We also muse about Earnest Becker's Denial of Death, and the philosophy of Hegel. We speculate about the physics of near-death experiences, particularly through the lens of the one Carl Jung experienced in 1944. We muse about the groundbreaking work of idealist cognitive scientist, Donald Hoffman, and more!

  • There's a lot of dopamine-hijacking doom porn, rage bait, insecurity bait content to choose from, but I always get long-lasting good feelings from Third Eye Drops, like these questions are actually worth filling my consciousness with.
  • The comment that the universe doesn't care if you die isn't completely accurate. It's not that it doesn't care, it's 2 things. 1. If the universe mourned and stopped every time someone or some animal died, it would be in mourning all the time. 2. The other reason it doesn't "care" is because it's not the end. Nothing can be created or destroyed, your energy and soul go on to other forms. The afterlife. Great episode though! Very deep.

Wow this is exactly what I needed to ponder right before bed lol

I'm no academic but I had the thought since someone posited to me that the universe is alive: if the universe is expanding and contracting, does that not sound like breathing?
  • I might sound like an idiot bringing this up but in Rick and Morty, season 6 episode 2 there was an alien arcade with a game called "Roy". You put on the helmet and make decisions in Roy's life, guiding him through certain life events in a time compressed virtual reality. Morty was so immersed in the game that when he died and Rick "Took the Helmet off" Morty was disoriented and looking for his in game wife. It's so similar to this desk top theory it's scary. The creators must have known about this theory.
  • Greetings from Doha, Qatar. Now if I can just find my third eye for these drops!

These conversations are some of my favorite things to experience. Thank you!

For me, you and the people on the show have been my physical reference for my synchronicities on a collective level .. comfort KNOWING it's all more than just something in my mind. I literally thought I was crazy, had no idea what the f*** and still don't but the universe seems to be speaking to me through everything including myself and you are the most solid piece of evidence I have that other people are experiencing the same conscious conversations within themselves and throughout their lives....... The first couple of times someone mentioned similar concepts .. I was like oh it's just avague coincidence and I'm grasping for true synchronicity. But your show so solidly explains concepts and are so concretely similar to many of my esoteric ponderings.. straight up things that I am afraid to talk about with most people, metaphors, vibes, esoteric and even scientific allignments which let me know this.. phenomena .. is being shared and is ever present. You have been and continue to be that rock for me sometimes , even though at this point I know i see this whole hive minds tuning in, lot to deal with.. strange omnipresent consciousness processing simuation uhhh thingy... Ya know. All that. Thanks for some solid material to grasp on to, branching out in all this.. some days these talks are what keep me grounded , definitely keeps me searching n knowing .......
  • All is mind. The ether is conscious. I feel like Hoffman is def onto something but being able to put definitive mathematics to it is kind of like trying to access data that exist in a singularity at the center of a black hole.

Your channel is the jam, man! Thank you. I love listening, thinking, feeling into and exploring new ideas…!🫶
  • The fact that we dream is enough proof for me that death is not nothing.
  • @d_shuffles
Great conversation, my consciousness feels adrift in the edges of space listening to the descriptions of these ideas like the original fire.
  • I love the way you talk about Donald Hoffman, can’t get enough of! Another well done video as always! Thank you!
  • @caravandyke6847
Wow! I love this!! Thank you for speaking on ideas I have been wrestling with❤ It feels so validating and brings me a bit of peace about all that is happening as we come to a deeper understanding of what and who we are. I think we are beginning to integrate our conscious and unconscious. No longer will we have to deny parts of ourselves and “cut off our nose to spite our face”. We can reprogram our reality to bring all of our being into harmony. We are becoming and it’s exhausting/terrifying/exciting! There is so much in this episode and I cannot express enough my gratitude and wonder at what you brought out in this conversation!!!

This whole podcast is amazing but that last 20 minutes about Hegel and AI... my mind just about exploded. What a fascinating conclusion to an incredibly enlightening podcast. Thank you both so much!!
  • Amazingly insightful and thought provoking conversation! Just discovered your channel and loving the content, keep on keeping on brother.
