Okay, sleuthing about on Google Maps, and the ominous looking building is in Crystal City, MO and is currently privately owned. But I believe it once belonged to a group called "Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union" (so it was a convent of sorts. From the pics I saw, it really is a magnificent building and grounds. The White Castle is called Selma Hall also known as Selma Farm and Kennett Castle. Built in 1854 by folks involved in local Lead mines (for the making of bullets, etc). Going downriver on google maps, the land sure is empty of the villages and towns you (me, too!) are more used to seeing on the Upper Mississippi. Lots of Levees, swamps and wing dams!

Nothing boring about being on the water, with the peace of mind knowing that your Yamaha will get you to where you have to go.
-
Keep doing what your doing! Boring or knot, enjoy every minute

There has been in the past a large Bald Eagle gathering on the Mississippi River around Keokuk Iowa usually in January. If the river is frozen over upstream from the Keokuk dam the water below the dam is usually not frozen. They gather and go fishing and teach their young to fish.

You still need to get a little fan to blow the heat around, point it at top of stove and bottom of chimney pipe, that will help warm it up

You are very blessed to have such a loyal first mate.

The cove you were staying in that looked abandoned, it’s called Port of New Bourbon.
-
The cove you anchored in is probably where they dredged out sand or gravel there is a big cove above owensboro ky that boat travelers seem to anchor in owensboro sand and gravel used to dredge sand out of it to sell.

Steve Wallis (Camping with Steve) always says "hunker down" too.

Thanks. Personally I like 'the big nothings'. Most don't, and I like that too.
-
Its the port of new bourbon. Sainte Genevieve area is known for limestone quarries they use for cement. The port never really took off like they thought it would.
-
If you had a pressure cooker you could cook the fish carcus for canned fish .
-
Ste. Genevieve 0nce had a train ferry that took trains across the Miss. for coal and mined Lime on the Mo. side. Home of the largest lime operation in the world. Enjoy
-
That looked like a peaceful anchorage.🌷

The last I heard, Holcim (concrete mfg)was planing a facility there, but it fell through. Environmental regs killed it, from what I heard.

It's always good to see your posts every day is every day

I think you should get some thermo curtains for those cold times. Would keep you warmer, plus save on fuel. (Added benefits of blackout abilities.. makes the beagurl shanty a cave boat)
-
FYI - Selma Hall (Selma castle) and abandoned, 44,000 sq ft Ursuline Sisters convent, Crystal City, MO.

I felt like that on my last trip down the Blue Ridge slow pace, curves that were identical to the one before but I knew it would get better and it did. Always something ahead somewhere.
