Sad,too think of all the memories that were made on that land.

I remember as a kid the old stage coach ride and how it would go through a very shallow stream. I got to sit up top with the driver once. Also the haunted house. There was a small balcony type thing that would drop about 6-8 inches making you think it was going to drop you all the way off of it. I was just a little kid from Massachusetts visiting my cousins out there.

Cool, but sad. I really wanted to sneak in the old haunted house before they tore it down, but was afraid I'd get arrested by some Barney Fife security guard. Fort Dells, the coolest attraction the Dells ever had, torn down down to put up a Wahlgreens.

Whaaaaaa????? First I found out Storybook Gardens was burned down, and now THIS? Oh god, all my childhood memories - this is painful to watch.

This is SO sad!!! Not what I remember the Dells being all about. :^(

I'm guessing this is the abandoned Crossroads, which is what Fort Dells became after it went out business. Crossroads incorporated a lot of the elements that were in Fort Dells, such as the train, the Haunted House, and the Totem Tower.

Back in 1856, the Wisconsin Dells was originally named Kilbourne City, for the man who founded the area. He was responsible for the damning of Lake Delton and creating and building the hydroelectric damn to power the area.
  • What a bunch of wasted land, just so that they could hurry putting a Walgreens on the corner and the McDonald's there!

@rburnsiv It looks like there has been a drill rig set up there all summer. I hope they don't demolish the whole site. The old restaurant next to IHop is opening again, or has opened. I'll have to take a look once the summer crowds die down. We went to Beaver Springs and there are several items there from Fort Dells. The old man sitting on the bench is now sitting in the middle of the medium fish pond!

Amazing what glaciers can do hey . The only area that the ice shoves didn't effect were called the ( Driftless Zone ) . This area will be found in southwestern Wisconsin.

An old rail line I'll have to look up. Canadian Pacific and Amtrak have trackage rights through the Dells. Amtrak has a depot there.

Did you have to ask permission to walk back there?
