Socrates said "the unexamined life is not worth living." The Oracle of Delphi, prophetess of Apollo, encouraged the followers of Apollo to "know thyself". St. Augustine set out to know God and the Soul, nothing more, nothing whatsoever in his Sililoquies. Philosophical Sililoquies are an amazing way to examine your life. In this video I show you how you can use sililoquies to know yourself.

  • Just remember the great philosopher quote…. “With great mustache, comes great responsibility” - Peter Griffin

I took a class in college at a small Christian school and we read every book you recommended in this video. We would have assigned readings and for class sit around a conference table and discuss interpretive questions that we had about the text. It led to some of the most intense conversation I’ve experienced and wish I could be in that environment again.

wait so have I been writing like a philosopher this whole time without even realizing it? that's epic.

Examining yourself feels so rich. I have a book I usually write in about self improvement and stuff, but I have never wrote things more subjective about reality and life. I'm getting into it right now! I used to write a bit of philosophy in a notebook back in highschool and reading it back makes me feel like I did a good job back then working on myself.

I've been writing soliloquies thanks to you and it has been a really great process writing down my thoughts on things in my life. Can't wait for your other content in store, thank you for sharing! Wanted to share that my last exploration was: "What triggered my need to minimize my exposure to the digital world?" (In the end of my entry, I say that it's ironic that I wouldn't know the effects of being chronically online if I did not stumble upon online content on digital minimalism, lol)

I've noticed that I do this with myself all the time. In my head I'll have conversations with myself to figure things out but I've never been good at expressing or communicating my understandings with others. Maybe putting pen to paper could help me address some of these shortcomings that I know I have. Thanks for the advice.

For two weeks I had a feeling that I would define as indifferent, neither sad nor happy, but I didn't know why. After watching your video I tried what you said and I managed to get to the thought that was not letting me move forward and suddenly and like magic I felt good. Impressive, thank you very much.

I love how you encrypted your handwriting with advanced writing techniques so only you can decode it! Brilliant!

I think that this would honestly be very helpful for me as someone who has Borderline Personality Disorder. I’ve always been told that I’m very self aware by people in my life, but I don’t have a very strong sense of self and I usually don’t know how I think or feel unless I’m talking out loud. I’d love to be able to look back and remember exactly what it is that I was thinking in a moment of clarity or stability in my identity.

I’ve been journaling the past year and I absolutely love it. It’s just nice to ponder sometimes.
  • I feel like this is the start of my interest in philosophy. As of right now I'm focussed on studying Astronomy and Psychology, but questioning why am I even interested with those things to begin with is so important. Thank you for the knowledge in starting this journey!
  • I do this in my journal/diary every now and then, maybe once a week. I do the monologues, but in high school I would do them as "interviews" where I imagined another person asking me these questions. Now I am thinking of doing them in a separate notebook.

I found your channel last night and I saw all your videos. I found out in your videos the “how to” to something I was thinking but didn’t find the way to do it. Thanks for your ideas!
  • @sanika02
Notes for my future self 2 ways to do it 1. Monologue with yourself - can be mini essays about random things you are thinking about and going a little deeper into it, helps to know yourself better, explore different facets of your mind 2. Dialogue between you and another character (can be a conceptual character like "Lady Wisdom" or a younger/older version of you) 2 types of questions to ask yourself 1. World view (does god exist, nature of reality, do I have a soul, what is truth and goodness and beauty) 2. Subjective (personal things related to your life)

Now this is the kind of writing I love and have been doing since 2018 but, a lot has happened since, lost a lot of things I have written. The normal journaling hasn't worked out for me. Thanks for the video, it has given me sturcture and inspiration to continue on.

Ooh! The mentorship and fatherhood reflection would make for a good podcast episode! My day job is as a fatherhood program coordinator and I’ve been reading and reflecting on this topic on and off the last couple years

I initially took to YouTube to find some reviews on different leather notebook covers. Now, because of your channel, I have a diary, book of sililoquies, and commonplace book. I'm also actively studying and thinking about philosophy. I owe you a great deal of gratitude. Could you consider the algorithm that led me to your channel "engineered fate"? Thanks for all you're sharing with us.
