Moisture is a formidable adversary for honeybees during the winter months, significantly impacting their survival rates. To combat this, I incorporate moisture boards and entrance reducers in my hives. Moisture boards, placed at the top of the hive, help absorb excess moisture, preventing condensation from dripping onto the cluster of bees below. Entrance reducers are utilized to minimize the opening, reducing cold drafts and further controlling moisture levels within the hive. These measures are crucial for maintaining an optimal environment for the bees, ensuring they remain dry and warm throughout the colder season. Implementing these strategies can significantly improve the survival rates of your hives, providing your bees with a better chance to thrive come spring.
