Algerian boxer Imane Khelif became the target of intense scrutiny and online abuse following her match against Italian boxer Angela Carini at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite winning the fight, Khelif was falsely accused of being a transgender person or "a man pretending to be a woman," with these baseless claims amplified by influential figures.

In this episode of "Let Me Explain," TNM's Editor-in-Chief Dhanya Rajendran explores the origins of these harmful allegations and dismantles the myths surrounding Khelif, Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting and many other athletes . The episode delves into the flawed science and entrenched biases that fuel such attacks, examines the role of the discredited International Boxing Association (IBA) in spreading misinformation, and discusses the broader issues of gender, race, and fairness in sports.

The world is just getting crazier and craxier!!!

I totally respect independent media like TNM in India as they always give a different perspective than the mainstream media does when it pertains to Indian issues, however when it comes to international issues they just seem to regurgitate what NYT, WP and Reuters etc put out.

Khelif doesn’t even rely on her power. She’s a really good boxer.
  • Why are the IBA keeping the tests they conducted confidential? What a strange way to further create confusion.
  • If this is true, as you say, then women's sports requiring physical strength and speed should be thrown out of the Olympics. Or else, we should accept passports and personal identification.

Both Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting have clinched gold. They won all their bouts 5-0 and were the only ones to do so in their respective categories. So much for IOC and their 'assumption of no advantage'.

Thanks for the video!! Carini...is in wrong sport...she is in boxing...why complaining about punches...😅😅😅 Congratulations to Imane ... Simply bullying a person while you fail is 😂😂😂 Imane lost previous matches why No one pointing this
  • 3:51 You said some women can have xy chromosomes and you promised to explain that later in the video, though you never did. Also you are incorrect because an xy chromosome human has male characteristics and there is no getting around that, even in cases of DSD, which the Algerian boxer likely has. This makes the competition in women's boxing unfair and dangerous.

    1. No evidence of XY chromosomes or transgender—only “verbal claims” by IBA The IBA organization held a press conference but failed to produce the report. 2. Only one verbal claim (by IBA) without formal report, but all other normal tests were ignored: Lin & Khelif have undergone testing in world-class competitions for so many years, but only the IBA in 2023 ‘claimed’ there was an issue and refused to disclose the test items, while previous and subsequent normal test reports by other fair associations have been ignored 3. The whole thing is a political attack and fake news The IBA is backed by Russian forces, so they’re targeting a Taiwanese athlete disliked by China and Khelif, who once defeated a Russian athlete. Most national boxing associations have already withdrawn from IBA, so they are now trying to get revenge on the IOC.

Politically I was raised and identify as a flat earther, and no scientific evidence or information will change my mind.

thank you for this report, I hope people understand. It looks like hate is dominating over common sense and humanity.

No matter what you say, the truth remains.

It's interesting to notice that the presenter of the video does tell about the IBA refusal of revealing their test-results while "forgetting" to tell that both athletes did NOT appeal their disqualification of the IBA's WORLD boxing championship in 2023 (not "an event" like slyly told by this presenter). It's also interesting to notice that the IOC accepted one athlete merely because the passport (issued a few years ago) states that the athlete is a "woman", a fact NOT mentioned by this presenter. "Racial discrimination"? When done by Indian men against Indian women, is it also racism? Or is it suddenly something else, maybe "cultural"? It's interesting how the presenter mentioned black and Indian women but "suddenly" forgetting the Spaniard athlete, a "whitie"... And XY = male and XX = female. As simple as that and nothing "complex" to invent afterwards.

Please enlighten me ,with the science. . does this person who has XY chromosome get monthly periods? Has this person ever menstruated...? . As biological women we all know the weakness women feel during the monthly phase .
  • Though khelif was born female with DSD, she isn't biologically the same as any other woman and she is winning over every woman athlete and my question is, how is it fair for other women? And then comes an extra 150 grams that disqualified our champ! Just the hypocrisy or loopholes misused in Olympics.
  • The lab used by the IBA, the one that identified these two boxers as having XY Chromosomes, is the same one used by the IOC for Olympic dope testing. The lab is obviously reliable. The male DSD which leads to external ambiguous genitalia and can lead to babies being falsely 'identified' as females at birth in some parts of the world, is known as 5-ARD, just like Caster Semenya. Both the boxers were given the opportunity to appeal against their disqualification by the IBA and both refused (for obvious reasons). More reliable, science-based information is available elsewhere on the internet. Don't be fooled by the gaslighting in this video.
