The tone was set as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed her guests on stage. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s greeting was certainly affectionate.
US President Joe Biden kissed Meloni on the forehead and then appeared to salute her before the 81-year-old joined fellow leaders inside.
Biden was noticeably absent when the group posed for pre-dinner photos. With some reports suggesting he was “struggling with the heat”.
But Biden didn’t miss out on one of the summit’s highlights the next day… singing happy birthday to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
